I got new tires a few weeks back. they are Hankook Dyna-Pro ATm. they are the same size i had before, 285/75-16 . Ever since i got them the steering feels really loose. before these i had BFG's and it didn't have a problem but now the thing is all over the road. What could cause this?
how did you like the ATM's? i wanted Nitto terra grapplers but the people at discount talked me out of them. they said these last longer especially if you pull a trailer at all. not sure if its true but i decided to try them anyways.
I think the BFG AT's have an extra ply in the side wall, that will give them a stiffer feeling.
But I have always gotten that squirrely feeling with brand new tires.
With the old worn out tires the tread is all worn down so you don't get any side to side movement (from the tread), with new tires you have about 1/2" deep tread which has some give to it.... the tread will stick to the road but the 1/2" thick tread will sort of squish around between the road and the steel belts in the tire carcass.
you think if i get a better steering stabilizer it will help the problem? maybe a dual stabilizer? right now its just the stock one but i did just put another new stock shock on it.
Mine was the same way with the pro comps. I could lay in it at 70 mph and it would get all squirrely and you could actually see the blackmarks on the road.
The rubber was really soft and the tread deep when they were brand new.
After some wear they stopped. It was kinda cool stepping it sideways at 70 mph though.
It left rubber powder all over the side of the truck till they wore down to 3/4 tread. Nothin wrong with your truck, just soft tires and deep tread. It'll get better with time.
Mine were 285's and E load. THe ATM's in a 315 are a D so i dont think they would be a stable loaded. I think The Toyo in a 315 is a E so i am sure they fell better.
The Toyo are Ds also there are very few 315/75/16 E rated tires out there. The ATMs are probably the worse tire I have every owned for 3 days anyways IMO.
I dont know about that. I had Cooper ATR's before the ATM's and they were the worst tire i ever drove on.
I know the Toyo MT's are E. You must have gone with the AT.
