For as long as I have had the truck, it feels as if the rear end is moving when the truck starts to move from a complete stop. It feels as though the axle is shifting and it only does from a stop, once rolling I have never had it happen. I have inspected the entire suspension over and over, but I can't figure out what its from. I had my wife jump in the truck and launch it, the only thing I could see was the axle twisting really bad. It was to the point that the front of the overload kissed it's frame stop. Could this be what I'm feeling when I go from a stop?
that would be axle wrap, and yes, that is im sure what your feeling, you could alos be feeling your carrier bearing, the rubber could be getting old and worn, letting it shift when you stomp on the go peddle, a new carrier bearing, and a set of traction bars would cure it...
If your not having any type of rear end movement at least once a day something is wrong. There are bad, undesired types of rear end movement that should be avoided.
would axle wrap be that noticable under light acceleration. i know theres gonna be some but didnt think it would be as noticable. its not a violent jerk or nothing just a little bump prolly 60 percent of the time.
The small bump you are feeling may be the splines on the drive shaft sliding in when the axle wraps. It needs to be greased when it starts to happen. Ford sells a grease in about a half quart can. The grease is light blue in color. For me it lasts about three times as long as standard greases.
This did the trick. I didn't use ford's grease, but I cleaned the slip shaft and put a zerk in it so that it can be greased. Truck comes of the line nice and smooth now, even if I stand on it.
what kind of grease did you use. the way you explained your problem is exactly what i have going on with my truck. gonna see if greasing it will fix the issue this weekend i hope so.
