2004 6.0 Rough idle lots of white smoke...NEED HELP ASAP

I'm leaving on a family vacation in 2 days and need to tow my boat.

I will start from the beginning.

My truck has about 90k miles on it. It started a while back with a light cloud of smoke after driving it for a while. It would smoke when I would pull to a stop sign or traffic light when I would go to accelerate. It would be one small cloud then it would clear up. The truck still had the factory EGR so I decided to delete it this week. The only other mod is 4inch turbo back exhaust. After deleting the EGR truck was running great no smoke lots of power etc. I shut the truck off yesterday for about 30 mins and when I went to start I had a lot of engine knocking and lots of white smoke. This condition clear up after a few minutes and went back to running fine. Then I noticed the smoking condition and rough low RPM idle. Truck runs great during acceleration just has a rough idle and white smoking. I put the truck on a scan tool and found nothing but EGR codes since its deleted. I went ahead and did an injector balance test. Test showed no engine RPM change when shutting down injector 6. I had #6 injector replaced yesterday and now the truck smokes worse than before. Scan the truck and now I get an injector balance fault on #6. Truck still has a very slight miss and smokes much worse. I've only put 10 miles on it since the injector swap. I'm just at a loss and need this fixed ASAP.

Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Also no coolant loss, White smoke smells like fuel and smoke goes away under acceleration. I'm going to check the FICM voltage tonight when I get home.

Also Swamps Diesel has been nothing but helpful during this whole thing. Thanks again to those guys

I know it sucks to think it happens, but I have swapped a bad injector for a reman that was bad. All that work for nothing. I would pull it out and check my orings. If they look good....get another injector.

Ok its not a bad injector. I sWitched it to cylinder 4 to see if it through a cyl 4 balance code and it didnt. Cleared the codes and I get the cylinder 6 balance code. I'm thinking its the FICM Its not down on power at all and only does it at idle

Anyone else have any ideas?

I'm still thinking it is an injector.

is your ficm wiring harness ok it doesnt have any bad spots in it anywhere where its rubbed on the valve covers or anything and wore a hole in the insulation? that will also cause it to run like that. just a thought.

Had the same issue with my 06. I deleted the EGR and would get some smoke at operating temp when it was 60+ degree's outside. Finally took it into a dealership, they did an injector test, #2 injector was crapping out, so i replaced it. No more smoke and truck seems to run better. I would guess bad injector.

Re: 2004 6.0 Rough idle lots of white smoke...NEED HELP ASAP

Just ordered the Autoenginuity package to attempt to locate another bad injector. Any other Ideas? Would a leaking intake or head gasket cause this condition?

Re: 2004 6.0 Rough idle lots of white smoke...NEED HELP ASAP

a leaking intake wouldnt cause it i wouldnt think. mine didnt it just didnt have any power because it wouldnt build up any boost pressure and it sounded like the turbo down pipe was off. it was really loud inside the cab.
