The Jasper County Sheriff's Department says two horses are dead, two are in terrible condition, and animal cruelty charges are pending against the owners.
According to Investigator Bob Walker, last week he and other deputies were called to a location on County Road 458, just north of Kirbyville, where it was reported that three horses were abandoned in a pasture, extremely malnourished, with no food or water. Walker said he traced ownership of the horses to a couple in the Call Community, and when he arrived at their residence he found another horse in very poor condition, along with three starving dogs.
Walker said the woman told him that her husband is working out of town, and she admitted that she had not checked on the horses for more than a month.
Walker said an emergency hearing was held before Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Susan Ratcliff on Monday, but the owners did not show up. Judge Ratcliff ordered two of the horses to be seized for medical attention. Unfortunately, one died shortly thereafter, and the other horse had to be euthanized.
Meanwhile, Walker said he also began investigating another case of animal cruelty on Thursday of last week. Walker said a horse on Shaw Guy Road, near Kirbyville, was in very poor physical condition and starving with no food or water. Walker said the only horse food he found was in an old car, and it was wet, which could make a horse sick.
Walker said in that case, the owners of the horse were very cooperative, and voluntarily released the horse to investigators.
My Grandpa has always said "If your going to have animals feed them and feed them well. Its easier to keep weight on them than it is to put weight on. If your not going to care for them give them to someone who will"
I don't have animals (other than a pet dog) and probably never will, but have always known for sure that if you can't take care of them give them away to someone who will/can
Pretty sad really. My roommate used to watch that Animal Cops show and there was a horse case on there. I couldnt believe how the horses had just withered away to skin and bone.
just sad like I have always said you can't fix stupid. They should take the owner's lock them up in jail and let them starve. I have no time for people like that. I hope they have a fun time in hell when the time comes.
If you don't have the time, facilities, and the money to provide for animals, don't get them. I have a few horses myself and il admit it's kinda expensive but there is no reason an animal should go without just because the owner isn't willing to take the responsibilties. There was a big case last summer, I believe Parker county, tx. A ranch hand hadn't checked the water troughs in a few days and the owners found a bunch of their livestock dead due to dehydration. I think they were a majority of horses. In 110 degree tx summer water needs to checked and replentished at least 3 or 4 times a day. The ranch hand was arrested and sent to jail with countless animal cruelty charges.
Horses have been in my family forever and I can't stand to see them neglected . The owner needs to be tied up to a fence post out in the middle of no where with no shade and water and see how long they last.
its sad that people get thier animals and cant take care of them, give them to someone who will, and give them a decent life. Had a guy i worked with in the marine corps who beat the hell out of a 5 month old puppy becasue it snaped at him and just wanted to play, dog was all jacked up all he got from the court was a slap on the wrist and 20 hours community service. which i think was total bs
Back when I was growing up. There was this five acre place down the road with a small tank on it. This dude from CA bought it so he could tell is CA friends he had a rance in OK. He put two horses on it. Figured, lots of grass water in the pond, no worries. Went back to CA.
Summer time, no rain, tank dried up. We were watering and feeding the horses. My Dad told us to go get them and bring them to the house. About eight months later, the owner shows up with a Sherriff. We told the Sherriff the story. The Sherriff gave the owner a choice, sign the horses over and get out of OK, or go to jail for animal cruelty. We got two horses.
I'm on my phone right now and can't copy the link, but tomorrow I'll post some pictures of "Abby" a rescue horse that my wife and I got from some friends that took her when the owner couldn't afford her anymore. This reminds me I need some "after" pictures so you guys can see how far she has come.
This was taken on April 11th. I will take some more tonight when I get home, but you can see, she wasn't in as bad of shape as she could have been in, but still pretty rough.
both dogs and my horses are better feed then some humans. Some peopkle just dont care we should tie them up and not check on them in a month see how well their doing
Unless you mean just being winged in a kneecap, or joint and having to crawl two miles to get treatment, I disagree. They should have to suffer just like that poor horse. Being shot would be too fast and painless.
