just thought I would pass this on guys, I wanted to bump up to a 3.5" F350 SRW block, from my factory 2 or whatever it is. and couldnt get one when I needed it, so with new longer U-bolts, I went ahead and used a set of Stock dodge ram rear blocks that I had laying around. they are tapered blocks, and ARE 5" TALL!!! and have the bumpstop arm just like the fords, I put them together side by side for comparison,{sorry, no pix} but really no diff other then height!, so I went with them, droped my carrier bearing down 3/4 of an inch, and with the 2/7 in leveling kit I installed up front, I was very pleased with the outcome, other then I wish I would have went with 35s instead of 33s, but thats a whole diff story, lol, I will try to get pick of the truck up soon, but just thought I would pass trhis little tidbit along...........
I want a burnout vid, the axle wrap should be near epic, along with the wheel hop.
Nothing against the way you got it up there, that's your choice, but I'd never lift a truck that way. If traction bars weren't mandatory before, they will be now.
It sounds like all he went with was the 5" block, shouldn't be that big of a deal. The stock blocks on my truck measured 3-3/4". Most 4.5"-6" lifts come wit a 5"-6" block, so while it may not be optimum, it shouldn't be tragic.
guys, these arent stacked, it is only the 5" block, it sits just about perfect. and really the axle hop isnt an issue, although, my old carrier bearing is, got a new one to install with the 3/4" shim, but my damn arm is in a sling cuase of a rotator cuff injury, so Im sidlined for a while., I built a set of traction bars had them on my dodge, I was going to keep them, but I ended up with a different set of hiem joints, so I sold the old, and going to build new. truck is pretty well stock for the exception of an 75hp bullydog econo chip, intake, and 4"exhaust and fresh trans, thats it as the trucks getting a 12-valve swap this winter....so, it will be enough for me for now!lol
i'm not so sure you should have shimmed the carrier bearing. My understanding is that the carrier bearing should be exactly in line with the transmission/ transfer case output.
A 5" block is fine. I run a 5" block with no issues and did not have to shim. My truck came with 2 3.5" stacked talk about wrap i brought it down with one 5" and it is perfect with a 4" lift gives it !" of rake.
