I dont have a 2010 but I do have a Job 3 2008 thats had its fair of problems. Its been to the dealer about 5 or 6 times for my memory seats and air conditioning not pushing cold air like it should. Just picked it back up tonite and they said it was all good but again its not to bad thay were closed or I would have given them an ear full. The other problems would be loss of power and surging sometimes. I would love to know how to post on this damn site. What problems have you had.
I have a 2010 w/approx 3,500 miles and no issues. I thought I had a oil leak but it must of been the oil changer at the Ford store splashed oil on bottom side of my bell housing like a rear main seal leak. But I cleaned it up and no issues.
Any part on any vehicle can fail at anytime, that being said...
At the dealer I work at we havent had many issues with 2010s, a few radiators, some oil leaks (usually front cover area), one with a leaking hose on the horizontal egr cooler, and one with a messed up A/C compressor, i cant remember evrything, but nothing major yet.
no problems with a 2010 yet. but i'm now up to 14 short blocks or complete engines on 08-09 trucks, i'm sure I'll have a 2010 that needs a engine before long.
the #1 cause of engine damage I have seen is overfilled crankcases from a internal fuel system leak. once the oil level is overfilled the engine is overfueled from oil coming thru the crankcase vent and the charge air cooler. this then will start melting the left bank of pistons and can burn the tip off of the glow plug. also if on of the egr coolers leak it can flood the cylinders with enough coolant to hydro-lock the engine and bend connecting rods
Don't have a 2010 but I also have a job 3 2008 with no issues at all. Guy down the street from me and another around the corner both have 2010's and have not had any issues with either of them.
Mine is not a daily driver but has 18,500 miles on it and to this day only been to the shop one time.. Was interior related..
My 2008 dually has been in twice for high pressure fuel system leaks that filled the crankcase with fuel, once for a leaking radiator, and I just took it in today for an oil leak. Has 37000 on it.
Oil analysis would show the fuel dilution percentage, but if you are running 5000 miles between changes, would it be in time to prevent any potential damage if the leak were major.....???
ive got a 2010, 12,00 miles 5 months old. no issues but the 250 tune is starting to take its toll on the tranny, it shifts a fuzz hard and sometimes slams..... but thats operator error. 250 spartan, 5inch straight pipe, dpfless.....
I pulled 38,ooo with it a week ago for the first time and it did awesome. kept up with the IH semi and its 13L cummins with 40K. Im very happy with it, and its had a decently hard life for being brand new.... its still on its original oil...DOAH.
id buy 3 more for the farm and replace my 7.3s.... best truck ive drove in a long time.....
Damn Norris! I thought these trucks were rated to tow 22-24 K. I figured if I ever hooked up to 20K you would be able to jog by me. That Spartan tune must be amazing.
I have pulled my bulldozer with mine. Its about 22k. I was impressed the first time i got on the interstate. Its a 09 with 18k on it. I had a little oil on the trans and thought it was an oil leak. turn out to be nothing.
250 tune is better than the 210 tow i think. my egt never get over 800 with that much weight either! i can hit 1100 on WOT with no loads...... i def love their tuning!
The dip stick is a good indicator. What is considered normal is for the oil level to increase between 2 and 5 quarts in a 7500 mile oil change interval, this will look like about a 1/4 inch above the full mark on the stick. If your check the oil level and its way above the full mark the short stick the indicator, this is done by only putting the stick in until bottom of the plastic handle is at the dipstick tube. If short sticking show the level to be more than 1/4 inch above the full mark than you may have a fuel issue, either a internal leak or to frequent regenerations. Of course a DPF delete will stop those issue. Another indication of a serious overfueling issure is if you take the bottom hose of of the charge air cooler and about a gallon of oil/fuel pours out
My guess would be no, tjbrowder. Im assuming its an undetected leak. WHen the vehicle begins to exhibit symptoms it too late as motor damage is already occuring. Would the oil pressure gauge show unusually high pressure? I would think that checking the oil twice a week would show increases in oil level.
It sounds like over fueling problem would happen over time and not on a 5 minute drive to the store. However, the EGR coolers leaking sounds like quick damage. I had a 6.9 that cavitated and leaked coolant into the crankcase overnight. I discovered it the next morning when I started the truck and my oil pressure gauge (aftermarket) showed way higher then normal oil pressure. Fortunately it did not hydralock and bend a valve but it could have if I had not checked it out and just drove off.
i just bought mine 3 weeks ago 600mi. i was under the truck looking around, found atf on the back of the pan and the rear pan bolts. going to the dealer monday. yay.
well turns out it was just a loose line going to the oil cooler. wheres the quality control on that one...
