How heavy is the fully loaded camper?
How much weight on the rear axle/tires?
Those are some of the reasons I sold my '06 F-350 SRW and replaced it with the F-450 in my sig.... I also pull a cargo trailer when hauling the camper.
I was about 2500 lbs over the GVWR (11500) and 1000 lbs over the tire rating of the F-350
I'm going to guess 3000lbs loaded. The biggest problem was the overloads never worked because they are mounted high on the frame. With the bags at 60lbs the truck would sway around and just wasn't fun to drive. Now the overloads work immediately and all I need is 20lbs in the bags. I can set the cruise at 75 and all is well.
Slide in pick-up campers have really evolved since my grandpa had one 40 years ago.
Now some campers have up to 3 slide-outs and hold up to 100 gallons of fresh water, with all the amenities that you would expect to find in a fifth wheel camper.
But the advantage of the pick-up camper is that you can go camp just about anywhere your truck can go.
Torklift makes some very good products.
I have Torklift camper tie downs and their Super Hitch and hitch extension on my truck.
