So the wife was using the truck today, good thing she was on the back roads and not the highway, she stepped on the brakes, pedal went to the floor, and she was barely stopping. The brake line blew, down by the fuel tank.
so how hard is it to change the line? I'm going from the master cylinder all the way back. not sure if I'm changing the rubber lines to each rear wheel.
I heard the rubbler lines are dealer only, any online sites? what about braided lines? also do I have to drop the fuel tank to get to the line? any special tips or tricks? anything special I need to know about droping the fuel tank?
I have heard that there is a place back there that they like to rub in two. If you are good with a flaring tool and a bender, you can simply put in a patch. It will be as good as new.
Not sure about the soft lines, pretty sure I have seen them at O'Reilly's.
I've usually used a compression fitting and cut our the bad part and flare it up along with a patch piece.
Not sure on any tips/tricks for dropping the tank, other than get it good and empty or as close to it as you can, and then get a hand to drop it down, or maybe use a floor jack for the weight and a person to balance it.
Never use a compression fitting on a brake line, use only a double flare. These systems see high pressures and you don't want to take chances with safety. Good luck.
I got the job done took my time to do it right .
I did not have to drop the tank I was able to get in there and undo the clips. Ran new line from the master cylinder back. Took me 3 hours no leaks thanks again for all your he
I blew the same one this winter and I also added a set of russel stainless brake lines to replace the rubber ones.I got them from summitracing for a hundred and something.A nice difference from the rubber ones.
Did you make your own line or order a replacement?
