Alright, so I had my truck serviced a couple of months ago because the nut holding the pulley on to the upper alternator came off. So basically, they replaced the alternator. However, the nut on this alternator has come loose.
Is there a certain reason for these nuts coming loose? I don't see how a brand new unit would have a nut come loose...I'm thinking to get some lock-tite and just tightening it down. Any torque specs?
just throw some permanent loctite on it and tighten it up with a wrench, you could even hit the threads with a punch after so it cant loosen and fall off.
The chirping in the vid is pretty much the same as mine. So that being said, with a bad idler pulley, it could cause the nut holding the alternator pulley to come loose?
Alright, so I called the dealer that I take my truck to, and they did not replace the idler pulley last time, when I told them about the TSB about the belt chirping. Last time, they only changed the alternator because I'm going to assume that that was the probable cause last time.
I took it up on Monday, even though they couldn't get to it till late in the week because I had work. I've been working some ridiculous hours this week and I'll call them tomorrow at lunch or something and see what's up.
Are most of you seeing dual alternators? You guys runnig dual 125amp ones? Ford has those and 200amp ones for our trucks. I think i only have one and the top slot is empty . Could it just be a 200amp one? I can see where it would bolt to, thats about it.. Should there be a harness to run another?
i already went through a new alternator which i paid for since i was out of warranty...that took a sh!t and i took it back less then 200 miles after with the same thing and it was the idler pulley that seperates the alternators.
