So been looking at spartan and really like them but not so fond of the 12 min wait time in between changing tunes. Anyone had both? What would you pick? Are both of these transferable to another truck? I know spartan is making a little more power with there's but the changing on the fly from h&s sounds awesome. Someone told me H&S was making some new tunes due to be released soon? I am looking at removing the dpf and all. I don't tow a lot just going to be a around town stopping ricers and Chevy kinda truck.
Most are going to tell you exactly what you stated, Spartan will make more power, but H&S has shift on the fly. If shift on the fly is important to you go H&S, if you want the most power go Spartan.
You will be happy with either tuner, they are both great companies, and have good customer support.
IMHO you cant beat Eric at Innovative diesel. he custom tunes SCT and we had his newest tunes on our 6.4 and never had tranny issues what so ever. now i do hear spartan has been having a few tranny issues latley. but in all honesty i would go with Erics tunes on SCT.
The only tranny issues I am hearing about are Suncoast billet intermediate's breaking. Has anyone with Eric's big tunes ran a few WOT runs with the Suncoast billet intermediate? It is obviously a design flaw since Suncoast is redesigning the part. Other than that, I don't hear of tranny issues with the Spartan unless someone has abused their tranny over time. Our tuning has been out there the longest, so people are going to start breaking transmissions eventually.
I didn't bring up SCT since he stated he was between Spartan and H&S, while I agree SCT with Innovatives tunes are great he didn't ask for an opinion on those so I didn't give my opinion on it.
But all three are the major tuners for the 6.4 and all three are great choices.
Shift on the fly is nice to have, but the novelty weares off pretty quick. Most people end up spending 90% of their time in one position so switching them a few times a year is no big deal. I daily drive and tow in the Spartan 275 tune, theres no need to change.
I haven't really thought about SCT much they kinda left a bad taste in my mouth on the last programmer i had. Bought it used and then they wanted $$$ big money to use it because it could only go on a couple cars. What kinda of power tunes do they have? Are they shift on the fly and what do they charge to move it to a different truck?
SCT and innovative have always treated me top notch, but no not shift on the fly. Eric at Innovative has some good power tunes on them, put down 585 on fuel or somewhere around there IIRC. and it has 5 unlocks and every time u move it to a diffrent truck thats 1 unlock.
Eriks tunes are great but the livewire is a pos and it is ugly. Get a Spartan and now you have the option of kem custom tunes as well. The new Spartan 350 and kem 345 will both blow your mind the 350 is giving me 2-3 mpg more than any other tune I have ever ran and the power is sweet. 45,000 hard km's on my truck been down the track a dozen times in 4wd and tow like a maniac and not one tranny issue here. I sell Spartan only because they are still the best. I have lots of customers with both and at the end of the day they are running Spartan. Be patient and wait for Spartan to get more dash daqs. I sell and install 2-3 black max tuners per week but only in the dodge 6.7 because it is the best you can get for that motor.
My dad has eric's tunes on his 6.4 with stock tranny and in my opinion abuses the heck out of it in almost 100,000 miles and never had a problem. He tows like crazy. Very hard on it in the snow and by hard I mean him getting on ice and spinnin the tires to 90mph till he burns through the ice then catches a little traction. That alone is impressive enough for me to never go anywhere else
The tuner comes preloaded with all of the tunes up to the 250 tune straight out of the box. The tunes are trans and engine strategy specific. It is a completely plug and play tuner. Very straight forward.
You give us a call after you have your tuner and we can set you up with them. But in order to have the 310, you have to have the 275 tune. In order to have the 350 tune, you have to have the 310 tune. The 275, 310, and 350 tunes all together are $500. Just the 275 and 310 tunes is $400. The 275 tune by itself is $300.
I would rather just get them all at once and be done with it. I will probable do a tq and studs soon after.
