I have a buddy who has a ranch hand that accidentally changed his oil with hydraulic oil.... bucket was labeled wrong anyway gonna need a new motor. I am looking for some ideas for cheap insurance and power on a new one. The truck has one purpose- towing heavy. I was thinking a 38r with appropriately sized injectors? 238s maybe with 80%ish nozzles? Im not good with 7.3 injectors so correct me if need be. Anyway then pushrods and some tunes. Truck is a 2000 and has an upgraded tranny. Thanks in advance!
Stage 2's and a 38r would be more than enough if all it does is tow heavy. Throw a regulated return and fuel system on there with some good tuning then call it a day.
A feller I know has 38R and AC injectors. It is a tow BEAST! He loves it. It put down 409hp on the dyno. I don't know if that is enough power for you but I thought I would throw it out there.
AC's are 160cc single shots. They would be like a stage 1 injector w/ stock nozzles, but the AC's have AB internals(OBS cali splits) with the exception of the single shot plunger and barrels. Since the AC is a single shot it is 160cc b/c of how the split shot internals work. 160cc w/ stock nozzles can be good for around 400hp w/ turbo, fuel system, and other supporting mods as previously posted with the 409hp post.. stage 2's are usually around 160cc-180cc and usually have 80% nozzles, but some people use 100% nozzles on stage 2's. i'm thinking 160cc w/ either stock or 80% nozzles w/ the 38R would be a great towing setup. the nozzles would be totally up to the owner. the 80% nozzles will get him a little more power, but might be hotter on EGT's and a bit more smoke, but i wouldn't think that injectors that small would get very hot w/ a 38R either way and the 38R will have no problem cleaning up 160cc either..
Keep it simple for a truck that is NEEDED. Stock forged rod shortblock, put some head studs on when you put the heads on, stage one injectors, a chip, possibly adrenaline oil pump if the stock one isnt holding up so well, and a responsive 38r turbo.
