Here's what happened. Truck ran fine all day yesterday then last night it shut off in a parking lot. Restarted fine. Drove it about a mile to a friends house and left it for a few hours. Came back later started it up and made it about 100 yards and it died again, wouldn't restart. Had it towed home. This morning it started fine threw the scanner on it and no codes. Made it about the same distance and did it again. Ipr while cranking 35% icp 2200 psi. Unplugged icp. No change. Pushed it back down the street. Half hour later it starts and idles for 3 min then died. Wiggled harnesses while someone cranked. No affect. Finally started again, repeat wiggle test while running with no affect. Died two minutes later. Still no codes.
Gotta get this fixed today. Need help guys. Thanks
I would check connections on the PCM plug, main harness on motor. Maybe the cam sensor wiring too. Just some thoughts. I would even look on the back of the fuse block.. wiggle wires back there. I have an ongoing issue with my starter. It's at the plug for the starter relay. Can't seem to fix it permanently.
Yea, if it just dies like you shut the key off, it's not fuel. These things act like they are going to throw a rod when they run out of fuel,, shudder and shake,, gets really noisy,,,,
If it just shuts down like you shut the key off, it's electrical. I would check connections on the PCM plug, main harness on motor. Maybe the cam sensor wiring too. Just some thoughts. check your engine harness closely. This includes wiring to ICP sensor,Regulator, cam sensor, fuel heater if you have stock fuel bowel. Also main engine harness where it lays on driverside valve cover. I have found rubbed wires in those locations that cause problems. Also if you have another cam sensor try it.(even if you dont have cam sensor code)
Well I just rechecked the wiring along with the fuse box wiring and still can't find anything. I watched the scanner while it ran and as it shut off. No fluctuations in ipr or icp both were perfectly normal. I'm lost....help.
Dumb question here, but is it chipped? If so, take it out and clean the board good, and try it again without the chip.
Cost me a ride on a rollback a long time ago because of some dust.
Couldnt see anything, but that was def my problem. Once in a while just a small bump in the road would kill it.
On edit, if its the truck in your sig, then at least pull the chip and clean it and plug it back up.
DUHH didnt read far enough down.
Also, checked injector pressure sensor for oil in the connector, or the stamped steel nut on the IPR to make sure its on there and tight?
Well it decided to run. Even though I inadvertently unplugged the left bank while wiggling wires. So it ran on 4 cyls. Figured that out and plugged it in. Did a cct and number 1 failed...? But it passed a buzz test like ten times. Now it seems to stay running but my ABS light is on for a b2141 nvm configuration fault....
ok let it idle for about 20 min and it didnt shut off.
so i shut it off and restarted it a few times...seems good.
ran cct again and this time #7 failed, looks like i'll be pulling that sides valve cover tomorow to see what i find.
Well this keeps getting better. I left it idling and went in the house and it shut off again. Came back out and restarted it and now its surging from 450-750 and the icp is surging with it from 750-2300psi respectively. Ipr dc is 15-37% while surging. I'm really at a loss here. Could this be an ipr issue?
i think you are right andy... gem only runs the electrical options... wipers, mirrors, blinkers, ect...
i know you said you changed out the CPS... but i have had cps that were good then throw them in a truck and they are junk... get new ones from the store and they are junk.... im leaning towards a CPS issue someplace...
got it figured out. spent a few hours on the phone with Dave @ Swamps (Golfer)
Great guy to talk to, stand up customer service!!!
anyways after we pulled our hair out for most of the time, slightly dumb founded, dave was ready to overnight me an IDM to test (last round in the shotgun lol) but i was able to convince Mark(MWalsh) to get his fat ass of the couch and bring me the bronco. swaped it in and put mine in the bronco...and the bronco shut off.
Just gotta get ahold of Dave again before they close. and let him know the results
cant thank Dave enough for all the help today !!!(and that goes for every one that had input in this thread also!)
still think i need a GEM tho. Arisley, I check the plug on the MC and it was good and tight.
Flad you got it figured out. Good luck on the GEM.
