Starting to get sick of grinding and welding the box makes a guy weazy but it is coming along nicely got the fish plates on the frame today and the box is welded out. More pictures will come tommorow. Fuel Cell will most likely go where the spare tire was to put some more weight back in the rear end. The springs and hangers and fuel tank etc took a lot of weight off the back of this truck
wow awesome is all I can say.......wish I had the money to do that to an 08 .........good luck bud and keep posting pics!!!Im excited to see this project finished.
Its a 2010 and has 5 KM on it I trailered it home from the dealership. Custom ordered 2WD Reg Cab A/C delete.
The only option is Cab lights for on the farm lol and tilt/cruise
The Recaro seats going in have AC built into the seats incase I decide to go fiberglass doors with Lexan and loose any sort of air circulation but we will talk about that when we get to the next step.
The frame is welded Stick we finished the Fish Plates today and the Box is done with our litle 110V Mig.
Next is the 4 link itself and then coil over brackets.
The 4 link was built for a Ford 9" so we will have to modify and gusset as necessary.
Anyway back to work I will try to send some more pics and updates tommorow once we get a little further into the 4 link itself
All my vehicles are owned by either 24/7 Compression or Dirty Diesel customs my 2 businesses. Because this is my personal truck I had my farm purchase it.
Now I have a tax write off for all 3. It will be getting a farm plate but I am not sure if I will be running farm fuel........
Everything is tacked and we are awaiting on the blessing of Moroso's Engineers that the way we have everything mounted will allow the 4 link to do its job properly. As the axle twists we need the bottom bars to push the nose of the truck in the air to transfer our weight to the rear. In my mind that is how it is suppossed to work but I am new to this so........
Once the go ahead is givin we will weld it out and then next will be the Panhard bar, drive shaft and fuel cell which is going where the spare tire was
Having had both I think you will be happier with a wishbone, instead of the panhard bar. Reason being if you drive on the road any at all the wishbone will keep the roll out of the rear when going over the eighteen wheeler ruts in the highway.
PS: Broke the panhard bar after about 500 miles, Also at rest the lower bars should be level with the ground, than adjust the upper bars for hook.
All we have left to do is the wish bone which should be done late today. We set the box on last night just to get an idea of what it will look like.
The cheapest way I could short box the truck was cut my old box down weld it up and then use fiberglass short box sides which run a guy around 850.00USD. If I welded up the panels the rust would eventually come through so we elected to use the fiberglass sides we had kicking around the shop.
The Wish bone should be here this afternoon and the driveshaft is going over to the driveshaft shop to be taken down 17 inches. We also plan on mounting the fuel cell where the spare tire used to be tonight. The fuel cell has as much surface area as possible to try to stop heat soak. Once I have the mounting done I will have to send it out to get the new fittings put on. I want a 3/4" pick up on the bottom gravity feed I think and then the 5/8" return to be returning back into the fuel. Do you guys think gravity feed on the pick up will be fine or would it be better to do a pick up from the top? I have very limited room on the top because it will be right under the box
No new progress today it looks like I may be stalled out until Friday
I did end up dropping the tank off to get custom strapping built and they cut the 1/2" pick up out and put a 12AN or 3/4" in. I decided not to go gravity feed because I am worried about tech not liking it at the track. The NHRA rule book is to hard to read so I just built the strapping to drop the tank a couple inches for clearance on the top. Also the return line was changed out to put the fuel back in 1" from the bottom of the tank so that it would not arrate. It was upgraded to a 10 AN or 5/8" I am woried about heat soak but may add a cooler to the return line if necessary.
We also did go with the wishbone which is a way nicer set up with the slip joint etc. It is not on yet I am not confident enough to weld to the cast diff so I may have to build a bridge over the diff.
sweet. hope it all works out for you. keep us all posted
