is it bad to leave a truck idling

Is it bad to leave a diesel truck idling for a long period of time? Like 4 or 5 hours. Just wondering if our trucks are like the big rigs, when they stop to rest they leave them running for the air conditioner

Re: is it bad to leave a truck idling

Ideally one would use an Auxilary Idle Controller also know as an APCM which would idle it up a little higher.

I dunno. Charge Protect runs it around 1100 I think (after the glow plugs finish cycling).

I have been told it's really not a good idea. I would amagine it wouldn't do the EGR any favors. Not sure why anyone would want there truck running all day unless your a EMT and drive a ambulance..

I wasn't sure if he was talking about a 7.3 or 6.0.

Re: is it bad to leave a truck idling

I have let mine idle for 3 hours or so when I have been clearing snow... Kept me warm when I would go huddle by the tail pipe, and then when I was done the truck was nice and warm... very nice... but that is the only time...

Re: is it bad to leave a truck idling

I would not let it just idle. Its not good ,worse with hot tunes, big injectors.
