Considering going from 3.73's to 4.10's. I have limited slip in the rear, open up front with Warn manual hubs. Truck will be on 37's, 6spd, around 400hp. Couple of questions.
1. What parts are actually replaced?
2. What extra factory parts will I have left over after the swap, if any?
3. For a DD, should I consider putting limited slip in the front?
I was advised not to use a LS in the front, especially if you drive in winter conditions. A selectable locker (ARB) is a better choice.
If you go in and remove the carrier, might as well replace the seals and bearings at that time. The small cost of parts is still cheaper than doing it at a later date.
I have 35's now. Have 37's to go on. I really like the 35's with the 3.73 ratio. 4.56 is too much rear, I think, it's like going back to original gearing. I didn't like the way it ran then. Too many RPMS for my preference.
I agree. 4.10's with a 6 speed should be nice on 37's. But I think you might want to give 400hp on 37's with 3.73's a chance. You've got enough of a selection that the long gears might be really nice...
Just sayin..... You've got a 38R, so you shouldn't have a huge problem spooling.
I am giving it a chance as we speak. Yeah, 38r, 1.15, and these hybrids are insta boost. I honestly never expected the truck to run this good. The thing about the gears is
1. I don't know what all is involved in the swap. I had it done to my Firehawk, all that was required was ring, pinion, and couple seals. I did not do the actual work
2. Aaron is interested in some parts that i may or may not replace.
That's why I started the thread, learning primarily. I have no intention of doing anything through the winter other than enjoy the truck. Thanks Jap.
36x15.5 atz's, 3.73's are alright just cruisin down the highway but in town they lack
