Just got a text from a buddy thats at the GA race today. Said Rudy was sprayin hard and the truck went boom at the 300 ft mark. Towed back to the pits.
he said the tranny let go, then the truck over revved and possibly hurt some valvetrain parts. as well the feed line blew off the turbo's which made a oil mess as well.
yeah it still runs..he said he got an over rev code and a cylinder is acting up, which leads me to beieve he hurt something in the valvetrain. he has chromoly push rods, so its prolly a rocker arm or lifter..they like to bend and break when things make more rpm's than they were meant too.
Said there maybe alittle more that what they think is wrong. Turbo line was re tightend not the oiling problem. Guess they said he didnt know if the truck stalled or if he shut it off, and he had no clue what the problem was.
it was weird to have the over rev code for that pass. he came out HARD and about the 330ft mark, truck went boom...sounded kinda like intercooler boot boom. then the truck was off..it never rev'd. when he started it back up, the truck had no tranny. it starts fine but wont move. the boom sounded didnt sound like a tranny break noise but who knows. i know he was spraying the shiz out of it and it was moving for the short time....
yea that was gonna be a wicked pass it cam out of the hole like a raped ape..said it was a 1.60 60' I believe, maybe 1.66 he was thinking a 10 second low 11's
I thought he might have got it fixed, until I saw this:
here is a video of it pre the BOOM(different pass)
Just got back, that was a long 9 hour drive. A few things happened on that pass. First off, the oil feed line to the turbo came loose which was not a big deal. Tighten it down and hopefully thats the end of that. A hard part in the tranny had to have gone, we will be taking it off Monday. No gears at all in the tranny, which is a full Suncoast. I know the guys at Suncoast will get it taken care of. It only takes a split second at that point to over rev during the pass. Either a rocker or lifter went, hopefully rocker. Getting a cylinder 6 misfire. We will find out on that one tomorrow or Monday. It will be rebuilt, bigger, better, stronger.
As Adam said, that pass was a 1.60 60 foot. With the new fuel system and the .110 jet I had in there, that would have been a low 11 sec, maybe even 10 second pass. Guess it will have to wait for Bowling Green on Oct 24th.
Video's will be posted shortly.
Thanks for helping towing it on the trailer Chris.
Rudy for some reason I thought you were in Florida sence you run there all the time. Some guys from the house had told me about your truck, bit I thought they were talking about someone else. It's pretty cool that you live that close to me. When I make it back home I'd like to come check your place out. Hope you get the truck back together. Good luck
One thing that we do know because of all of this, the truck is pushing some serious power now. I want to thank Elite Diesel, Spartan Diesel, Suncoast, and Sean at Street Diesel Performance for helping with the build! It will be back at the track soon.
I'm guessing that was a fuel only run? that truck looks good.. how in the world have i missed your shop, i was home a couple weeks ago and drove right past there twice..
So is this something that is weak in the Suncoast that can be fixed better? You have the race trans with billet input and intermediate? Is this something I should be looking forward to? I don't have the upgrade fuel setup, does it make that big of a difference when using nitrous to be able to break a race trans?
I thought these guys were all stock, now the truth comes out, cromoly don't come stock, at the end of the day you guys have a 6leaker with a better fuel system.
These "race" trucks were basically all stock up to a couple weeks ago. When your goals are "FAST powerstroke/powered by a powerstroke" stock isn't going to cut it. That truck is headed for a 10.80 pass or better.
I realize that(maybe not me?), but the truck was very close to what you could purchase from the dealer and upgrade with very little effort. As Cobbs point's out, the truck still has stock turbos and injectors. The moly stuff was suppose to add durability not performance or HP. This may not be referring to me/Sean, but to redneck6.0 instead? Still amazing job Aaron, I'm sure you'll reach your goal soon.
No offence, but what would chromoly push rods do for power anyway? Aren't they strictly a reliability part? It's still a stock turbo/injector motor right?
