Is there any way to decrease the turning radius of my truck, 99 F350 2wd CC DRW LB. I have seen the ram steering don not want to spend that much. I am wondering if the F450/F550 steering boxes have more sttering angle and will bolt up. I have access to a machine shop and can make a longer pitman arm but don't really want to go that route due to changing the geometry and angle of the steering arms. I am willing to put 2" wheel spacers on the front wheels to keep them from hitting to frame.
Any input would be great or someone who has done something like this.
do you mean increase turning? no matter what you do. the radius will still be the same becuase off the stops from the hub to the axle housing. on 4x4 model anyway. never looked too much under a 2wd rig.
2wd radius is probably better than the 4wd radius since you don't worry about putting u-joints in a bind.
If you could make a I-beam and spindle with offset balljoints or kingpins, you could gain a lot of turning radius. But, I don't know offhand what that would do to your tire wear, expecially if you do a lot of city driving.
You have a CCLB.....you can't expect it to turn very well, lol.
You can't decrease the radius with the parts you have, if it was a 4x4 I would say swap the '05 and up front axle and suspension into your truck and you would get a tighter radius.
I thought about suggesting that, but with a dually it might not work as well. That and I'd be a little worried about load capacity. Most people don't buy a CC LB dually for looks.
I suppose if you used a Rockwell 2.5 ton axle it'd be alright.
No I meant decreasing the turning Radius, or in another term increasing the stearing angle. The wide trac F450/550's (2wd & 4wd's) have a 51' turning radius compared to the 350's 56' turning radius. No I didn't buy mine for looks nor did I buy it for its turning ability. I have to get in and out of some tight spots with a 48' car haulerr (5th wheel) which makes it kinda cumbersome and difficult @ times.
