What specifically is your concern or question? The actual procedure is pretty straight forward if you have ever done gears before, it's a carrier shim adjust on the sides like most.
Tip wise - if you have a posi, make sure to rebuild it with the proper steel/clutch/steel/clutch order, Ford doubles up on the steels to lower the holding power for some reason.
i am installing a new ring and pinion stock ones broke. have all new bearings would it be best to start by reinstalling oem shims. i have never done a rear end
The new R&P should come with instructions on how to setup the backlash and contact patch by changing the shim thickness from side to side...if your carrier has not changed then the total combined thickness of the shims should stay the same to keep it nice and tight in the housing(bearings are very tight tolerance and rarely change dimension), but the thickness of the shim pack from side to side may change in order to set your backlash to where it needs to be. Typically the same shim can be used on the pinion but you still need to set up the dial indicator and check the lash and pattern to make sure. Be careful when creeping up on the proper pinion nut pre-load, keep checking turning torque.
Make sure to check your housing for damage where the bearing resides, and also make sure your shims are not eaten - both are quite common.
the houseing is fine it wasnt damaged at all the new ring and pinion did not come with instrucions or any specs so i am trying to get a hold of the company that makes them to see if they can send them to me
go to randy's ring and pinion.com they have plent of helpful info, contact pattern and back lash are pretty standard for the rearend not so much for the ring and pinion manufacturer. .010-.015 backlash will get you close and a good contact pattern will last a long time, its kinda a pain getting things set up because one effects the other, more time consuming than anything...
thanks guys i finaly got the time to get this thing all set up. it runs good
