I want some under the hood shots of that truck! Looks like you spent way to much time on the drawing on the computer. You probably would have it half done if you spent as much time on the bumper as you did on the drawing LOL
its 1/4 plate. im gonna put another 2 supports from under to the plates welded to the chasis.
its for a 8000lb winch though.
i wouldave have it done now it i had a place to work with a roof.... its been raining hell here last days and got univerity on the night and work on the mornings.... so i only got a few hours to work.... hope it makes a nice day tomarrow to do some work..
ill add pics of under the hood tomarrow i was uploding them when my cel ran out of battery and i got the charger on the truck
rains stop a while so i ad a chance to do a few things. i got a plate for the skid so hopefully tomarrow il get a chance to put it on and start cutting and welding together the pieces for the sides and bottom. ill prolly have all sat do work on it finally a full day to work... hope it doesent rain :S
i wanted to put it on the truck again to see how it looked but it started raining again :
Looking good but turn your welder up. alot of those welds look cold and no penitration. When your welding you should have a nice clean and even poping sound. Looking at those welds that bumper is going to rip apart the first time u use that winch.
Just noticed your using stick definately need to turn it up
Do you have the right shad lens on your hood? you should be able to see what your doing without killing your eyes. I went down severall shades from what came in my hood
yeah the side welds i had to use it low cause the front plate is very thin (weight wise) so if i had it any hotter it would pass right trough it, but the winch plate i got nice penetration and i still need to reinforce it a lil, and ill add a couple more brackets that go to the lower part of the chasis
yeah im using stick. its my first project also...
this is how its looking now
im putting the skid last and the lower side plates so i can work alot easier now
yeah.. my dad insisted he wanted tile floor... hence why i have to go outside to work.... on the rainy season.... it was nice cement before.... great to work.... but.. oh welll.... and its even worse.. the working table is nailed to the wall... inside the garage... so ive even got to work on the floor...
Ya I know the fear of burning through. But from my experiance if you have a good helmet that you can properly see through you can run a hot weld and still not burn through. That's what I love about welding if you screw up u can always fix it. That's how I taught the wife how to weld. Told her not to worry about screwing up I could always fix it. And boy can she lay a good weld
haha yeah.... im still learning to weld though... and i got some serious wholes there.. almost could fit my thumb threw the,m.. but managed to close em proud of that lol...
hehe ya that is always fun. i have years of experiance and i still burn every once and a while.... I learned how to weld years ago under some pressure. The factory i was working at was installing a new superstructure for its 10000 pound hoists. they handed me a welded and told me to put the structure togeater. Oh #### i thought never welded before and 90% of it was overhead. Well that was 15 or so years ago and iv never herd of it falling down yet...LOL
this are a few days old. i already grinded down the welds and started to put the lower plates on the sides. hope i can get it done for the weekend or early next week to go find a muffler place that can bend me some tubes.
a lil update (welds are dam ugly but they are grinded down and soft as a babys cheek)
yeah im from costa rica, the truck is assebled in argentina and the engine is made by international motors in brazil.
there is also the 3.0 powerstoke with electronic injection.. this one is the 2.8 TDI TGV.
a pretty tough little truck. thoug it sucks that the put 3.76 ratio on the axles... i sure need to see how can i get some new gears here for cheap....
ive seen some diesels on mexico.. but some come with the crew cab and the 2.3 sohc i think
getting it done by monday i hope. also monday i get the tube bended for the upper part to protect the 4 lamps im putting on front on the light bar thats there (not finished btw)
and the same on the other side.. but a lil different as the gap was much smaller
the 2 down are welded to the frame were for the bushguard/winch i had before i builded the bumper.
its actually pretty nice for being the 2.8l. the 3.0 its a little tougher and u can add a tune.
what i normaly tow is around the 4000-6000lbs
so for a 2.8 not bad i guess. though its 3.73 gears.... itls suck when i put 32's... and i cant reagear.
some poser shots with the winch and the hooks on.
and the hooks first taste of dirt....
lol...
