Hey guys I really need your help. I am about 1000 miles away from home and not heading back for another week. Noticed my truck today was leaking coolant on the driver side. After further investigation I noticed it was leaking coolant out of my cold air box!!!! That can not be good....... Now I did get on it just a little bit before I noticed the very small puddle under the truck when I stopped. Could this been a temp leak from the gettin on it or did I do some serious damage?
The truck is running fine and not overheating from what I can tell....
Can I still drive my truck or is it need to be fixed asap? I really would like to wait until I get home before replacing gasket and studs. I live not far from swamps diesel. I am currently in San Anonio and have know clue who to take it to. I also don't think a local shop will get me in for the fix by the time I need to leave Texas.
Could it be anything else? I do beleve I saw coolant around the cap but just in case what would allow cooland to come out of my air box?
More than likely you just puked coolant out of the degas bottle above the intake. Im not sure what would have to happen to actually leak coolant out of a cold air intake but Im pretty sure the truck would not be running fine. Check your degas bottle level and fill it to the cold line as I think you'll find it is low. What's the under side of your hood look like? Can you see coolant splatter? Honestly, I think your fine. Puking doesn't automatically mean you've blown head gaskets either. Mine puked from day one when towing but when the head gaskets went, I knew it. You can flash boil the coolant in the EGR and it will puke after you've been on it hard with a hot tune or towing stock. Take notice when you start it in the morning if you get any steam or white smoke out of the tailpipe as this is a sign that coolant was leaking into the combustion chamber(s): ie: headgasket failure. Ironically the truck would still probably get you home. Bottom line, don't panic.
Alright you guys calmed me down a little.... Thanks a ton! Hopefully I can sleep tonight. I think I still need to get those studs and egr delete accomplished as soon as possible.
Man it was gonna be hard to sell the old lady on the new bass boat if I did some real serious damage.
