I checked the number on my valve covers this morning and it's seemed way lower then all the ranges of numbers to go by to tell if it's a forged rod motor or PMR's

1229561 - 20 dec 99

anyone know, my guess is forged, but anyone got a definitive answer?

Thanks, Jon

1999 build date would be forged, unless someone swapped them for PMR's.

Who knows, could have happenned.

Start of production thru 1425746 are Forged Rods
1425747 thru 1440712 are Powdered Rods
1440713 thru 1498318 are Forged Rods
1498319 thru final production run are all powdered

quick question.

i was doing the CCV mod today and i found 1 sicker on the D side valve cover. i could only read a date on it... 01 13 02.

any shot in the dark for forged? i know the truck was mfg 01 of 02

I went to many tool suppliers and even a hydraulic shop and none could find me this 5/16" recessed square pipe plug driver...

so I ended up getting a 12" long peice of 5/16 keystock for $1.50 and cutting a 2" chunk and using that with a 12pt socket to easily remove the plug

and yes I confirmed I do have forged rods ;) mmmmm hybrids....
