I aint got nothin against dynos, or people that like to dyno. I'll admit its kinda cool to see what they make. But really what does it matter if a truck makes 1000hp on the dyno, but doesnt run worth a crap on the street/dragstrip/pullin track??? In my opinion it dont amount to squat. And when it comes to comparing dyno numbers between trucks, unless it was done on the same dyno on the same day or in similar conditions, you really cant compare dyno numbers from one truck to another. Basically IMO the only real practical use for a dyno is for tuning purposes.
I hear and see a bunch of talk about how so and so's truck makes this much horsepower or blah blah blah. The question is, How does it actually perform when placed in some sort of competition, and is the power you made on the dyno even usable (for example a ginormous shot of nitrous).
"Basically IMO the only real practical use for a dyno is for tuning purposes."
This is correct here. My truck does not make the power on the dyno but at the track it sure goes good. The dyno is a "Tool", to be used to get the most out of your set up.
Why does a dodge that dynoes 525 hp run .2 slower at the track than a ford that dynoes 456? Same dyno, same day, and the ford has 200lbs on the dodge as well.
Hell my truck doesn't make squat for HP but I've seen a bunch of friends with 500-600hp dodges behind me at the end of the strip. Everyone has their thing though. If you are into racing then the best time is what you go for. If you are into pulling then the full pull is what you go for. If you are into just having a DD or tow rig then reliability or reliable towing is what you go for. If you are into dyno numbers then that is what you are gonna go for, not anything else.
"The question is, How does it actually perform when placed in some sort of competition"
If you are into dyno numbers then that is YOUR competition.
But in my opinion I'd rather make less hp and blow the doors off those with more hp. But that's MY competition.
back to my backpatting post.... multiple ford pickups, same owner, non shop owner..2 different style diesel engines installed from the factory over 700 rwhp.
Who cares ?? I mean It is nice to be able to climb in and fire it up and drive it . Anytime you start making more than what it came with you will have issues. Is it fun beating up on another truck hell yeah ! I am leaving all the High HP crap to all you big ballers. What I have is just enough to make me happy it aint real fast but its mine and its fun,It sucks to have something thats such a damn morphadite. I bet a few that have converted there trucks are real happy sometimes and other times theyd like to sell it and get something alittle less trouble.
Uhhhh....no
The 30,000+ miles I've put on my conversion is the longets it's EVER been trouble free...and at a couple hundred more HP than the old motor.
I thought about the conversion thing...... The fan club just won't be there.
