Alright I just purchased my first diesel about 3 weeks ago, its a 2008 F350 single wheel, So far I've added a 6" lift, 36x15.50's on 20's and a few other things, My truck is an auto...... I'm wanting to put a programmer, do some exhaust mod(s) and intake right now.... I'm not looking for anything to pull down a mountain, just maybe a house lol..... I've heard that the 6.4's wont lay down smoke like the 7.3's???? But anywho enough rambling on, I'm looking for a lil more power, smoke and a good sound...
dpf delete, tuner from either spartin, or sct with tunes from eric. best that i can do. also whoever said they wont smoke like a 7.3 is totaly correct, they can smoke.
Yeah, I've noticed alot of talk about this Spartan, and as for right now I was thinking of just ditching the muffler for a few weeks, My budget is kinda slim being as I just lifted it and everything... Will it cause any problems to straight pipe it with the stock exhaust? I feel like a complete doucher, I know nothing about diesels, I am or was a minitrucker, then I grew up, WAYYYY UPPPP hahaha
Getting rid of the stock muffler does absolutely nothing at all. No sound improvement or anything. My suggestion to you is wait until you can pull the trigger on a good tuner (Spartan) and keep your truck stock until then.
A 6.4 Spartan tuned, or SCT tuned with River City or Innovative custom tuning will smoke WAY more than any 7.3 tuned truck. TRUST ME ON THAT!!! You need Spartan, but if your not willing to spend the $2,000 on a tuner, intake, and exhaust, get a SCT Livewire with River City Diesel custom tunes. Spartan is the most proven and holds every 6.4 record, but some view it as too expensive. Make the right decision and what works best for you. Just know what is out there and what's the best...
I believe he is referring to the stock muffler that is after the DPF. It's just a straight through vented resonator design that catches any excess soot that makes it through the DPF. I tried removing this for sound increase when I first got my truck.....it did nothing at all
Well I'm willing to spend the cash, I see it as a good investment haha because all there is in my towns are alot of Edge and Superchip'd 7.3 250's, Duramax's are the same, and like 3 Cummins Rams.... and I'm wanting them to put up or shut up.... I'm goin for the kill..... It will take me about a month before I can actually buy the stuff, but I was wanting to do full homework before I go ahead buy and regret ya know.....
if i had the chance id have a nicely tuned 6.4 and i highly doubt that i or you would regret that purchase.
just look at 08stroker's numbers
2008 F-250 6.4L Powerstroke 4x4 CC/SB
560 horsepower
1110 ft lbs/tq
haha no I wouldnt regret that at all, thats what I'm looking for.... I meant I wanted to do full homework instead of running out and buying a dime a dozen programmer like the rest of the guys from my hometown...
I run an AFE Stage II cold air intake (with the AFE torque tube). My exhaust consist of an Elite 4" stainless downpipe, Flo-Pro 4" DPF/DOC delete pipe, 4" MBRP single stack kit, and a 6" mitre cut MBRP stack. When I dynoed I still had the stock downpipe, and I had a 5" downpipe back straight pipe.
awesome...... I will check into that cold air kit and dpf delete.... wheres a good online site I could order these parts? Sorry if I'm being a complete idiot..
You gotta do what makes you happy and what you feel has been the best investment for you and your truck. There is never a right or wrong way of going about it unless you aren't happy with your decisions. Show is just as important as go, just depends on which one is more important to you.
Yeah, that is true... I've never drove a stock vehicle, as in wheels, tires, suspension, and this truck def turns alot of heads so far.... I think it looks good, now I can get it to perform as good as it looks ...
I am the same way, never leave a vehicle stock. I have had my first and only diesel for about four months. The info the others gave you is right on. DBF delete and a spartan, you will love how that engine comes alive!
Good deal man!! Keep us up to date with it's progress, and let us know if you have any more questions. There are never dumb questions....unless you ask why a Powerstroke is better than a Cummins and Duramax
haha well I wont lie, I was goin for a Cummins in the beginning, And I ended up buying my F350, I dont regret it because its damn nice....or atleast I think so.... I've always been a Chevy man, but never liked a Duramax.... I'm weird I guess... I love the Stroke so far, and I know it can only get better! hahah I get looks everywhere in town, even lil ole ladies at the local store...
Hey, im in the same boat. All my other vehicles are and have been chevy's LOL I didnt like the duramax either and ended up with my 7.3 powerstroke. Your going to love the new power once you get the intake, exhaust and tune!
I would bother with doing that. It doesn't prove anything at all, and could potentially cause some damage to the truck. Tell them to race you, that will prove a hell of a lot more than hooking to chain with him. That's basically going to go in favor of the truck that gets traction best.
and I will keep posted on the progress and kills that I get..... This past Saturday night there was some punks wanting me to chain to they're 01 F250 thats just got the muffler off and a Superchip, haha well needless to say, they'll regret that in a few weeks... you get what you ask for
