It's got 48,000 miles on it and no mods. I at least want to put a tuner on it. I had a DP tuner on my last one but what else is out there? Also, what else can I do to boost power on it. Something that's not too in-depth or expensive.
Intake, Exhaust, Chip. Then look into 4 corner fuel system (economy or regulated return) then turbo upgrade then injectors. That's the order I'd do it.
Why not a chip first? Is it a cost thing or does the exhaust have a better result. Maybe its a longevity thing, do you need an exhaust mod if you have a tuner or chip??
What year model truck are we talking about? If it is an obs then you really have to upgrade the exhaust.
On a super duty, your higher settings in the chip will run hot quickly without an exhaust upgrade, but the chip could be your first upgrade without many problems if you watch your EGTs in the higher settings.
Thanks, its a 2003 and I will want to put the performance computer mod on it. So I guess I have to do intake and exhst as well. I will look into it. Anywhere you guys recommend here in East TN/Southren West VA??
I am not sure how to get in touch with him. Do you have a web site I can go to? or a phone number? do I need to give a vin number for the truck. Its still at the dealer right now waiting on cleaning and paperwork.
I'll give a thumbs up to Matt as well.Nice guy to talk to and seems to know his stuff. You should save up some coin and get his package deal on turbo, chip, and injectors.
Gauges, intake, exhaust, chip, VB for trans, regulated return, conservative injector upgrade, and turbo.
You have a 2003 which means that you have PMRs (powdered metal connecting rods).
These rods don't respond well to large hp increases over stock, so that is where you should stay if you don't have the $$$$ to replace the rods.
You should do gauges 1st. then intake and exhaust. Then a chip from Matt. He is VERY good and will set yup up right. Last i knew he had some stock PMR trucks putting out some good numbers with some big injectors and turbos on them doing just fine.
ELEV: I hope you have a nice thick wallet? All the above advice is perfect... Make sure your transmission is in great shape.! Maybe add a performance T/C and Valve Body... These mods as well as the injectors and turbo will play havoc on a stock transmission.
Thanks guys, I will look into it all. I am a little worried about the trans. This is my first automatic but I do feel just the slightest "bump" when it shifts. What's up? Is there normally a little bump or is it suppose to be real smooth? I am use to a smooth VW shift.
It is a heavy duty truck tranny. You will feel the shifts, especially if you are in the throttle a bit.
I would recommend a tricumaltor kit from DI or a transgo tugger kit. Both less than 100 bucks.
Gauges. Boost, EGT, and tranny temp. Pick your brand, stay with a name brand, don't go third world.
Chip, just do a search for chips. You will get a hundred recommendations, they are all good. Myself, I like Tony Wildman, Total Diesel Performance.
Better intake 6637 filter, a hunk of 4" exhaust tubing and a clamp. Around 50 bucks. All the way up to over 400 bucks. The 50 dollar one works great, it's noisy though.
Exhaust, a few bucks for a 3.5 inch muffler delete to a bunch of bucks for custom 7" stacks. Thsy all work good. You can get a 4" turbo back for less than 400 bucks.
