I am about to purchase new tires for my 04 f250 4x4. I trailer some for work. I drive alot of gravel roads and need something that works in snow and ice. The last tires I had were 285/75/16 E rated BF All terrians. I like the looks and traction of these tires. The tires were well suited to everything I wanted to do with them. The only problem ids they wear way to quick. I have 22000 miles on them and they are worn rifght out. I need a tire that is comparable to these and lasts longer. Does anyone have any suggestions for what has worked for them?
I bought some kumho's off of tirerack a while back and really like them. Great ride on the road and not too bad off road... most of my driving is on road... have 4x4 for when weather gets interesting.
I have to disagree on the duelers. My uncle has a set and hates them, he can't go through wet grass in 2wd and the tire wear is horrible. He has about 25k-30k and they are slick. He does use the truck as a farm truck and it see lots of gravel roads though. Oh and the biggest downfall is that he drives a 2500 Chebby.
I love my Nitto Terra Grapplers. Pretty quiet on the highway. I don't know about the snow/ice performance, but they seem to be wearing pretty well. I don't know how old they were when I bought the truck, they had to be pretty new. I've put about 23k on them so far and they still have lots of tread left.
After asking around here, most guys are running Yoko Geolander ATS. I am not a fan of the looks of these tires. I liked the tread design they had a few years back and had a set that last and preformed well. I was leaning towards the Duelers and Terra Grapplers. I don't know anyone running them so I don't know how they wear on gravel roads under load. The BF's looked good but did not stand up at all. Thanks for the help, tires are such a big decision to make.
On my 2nd set of Nitto Terra grapplers. Excellent tire, quiet, smooth and wear well. Had over 40k on last set, still probalby had 10k left on them. They are excellent in the snow, I don't know about mud. I tow multiple times a week.
I hate to be the one to say it but your not gonna get much out of any tire on gravel. It just chews the damn tread all to hell. I drive on damn near all gravel and half ass slag roads all day and I'm in the same boat as you. I have tried many a tire with the same end results. New ones to replace the old ones......
