I'm looking at gathering up parts for my system in my truck and I only have knowledge in the audio industry about 10 years ago these would have been good. Are they still good?
not really just go to ebay and get ya a good set of kickers or rockford fosgates thats what im runnin and they are the chit. but there are alot of good ones out there
I have those infinity reference 5x7's in my Excursion in the front doors and they sound really good. They had the highest sensitivity rating out of all the speakers I looked at in that price range.
I had two of the kicker L7 15" subs in where my back seat was and they were rediculous but one of those 12"s are pretty bad. im runnin a rockford titanium T1 12" and love it its not to much its just right
I haul way too much stuff in my console to take it out. I would rather take out a seat and haul less people ! My son is the only one who rides in the back and my rear seat lifts up un the driver side while leaving the middle and passanger side down. I'm just going to build a box for behind the driver seat for a single 12 with a amp rack built in & a cup holder on top. I'm thinking a raised lip around the top that way I could carry small stuff on top of it and not have them slide off. I have a good Idea of what I want I am just not up on what brands/quality is out there now days. It's wayyy different from when I used to do it.
Thanks for all of the replys guys keep them coming if you like a particular amp, component set, head unit post it up so I can research what all you guys are happy with.:ford:
Sounds like you got most everything figured out. MB Quart is pretty good, not quite as good as they used to be. I believe currently they are owned by the conglomerate that is Maxxonics, MAXXSONICS HIFONICS CRUNCH AUTOTEK MB QUART
Whichever you go with I would stick to some good round speakers instead of trying to fill the oblong hole with some oblong speakers. Round just works much better for musical reproduction and worth the tiny bit of effort it may take to make them work. I have 6.75" mids in my doors without any cutting, just had to drill 4 new holes (or use self tapping screws) Ultimately best way to adapt round speakers in would be to use a 1/2" or 3/4" piece of MDF as a baffle between the door metal and the speaker.
For amps personally I love my Sundown audio amps, best way I can think of describing them would be that they are like the DP tuner and Tony Wildman of the car audio world where as JL Audio is like Banks (read good but higher priced, banks hard parts not their junky tuning) and Kicker like Edge. If you go on audio forums such as caraudio.com or diymobileaudio.com you can easily get in touch with the owner of sundown audio and find tons of info on his products, which are now pretty extensive.
For HU's I really like Alpine but it is hard to beat the bang for the buck factor of Kenwoods current Double Din offerings. Audio wise I would look for something with 3 pre outs (shouldn't be hard to find) and decent voltage around 4v.
Budget definitely helps in making some suggestions, could range from a set of Phoenix Gold RSD components or some Hybrid Audio L841 3-way component (someday I hope to own) set. I currently have Polk Audio SR6500's and am VERY pleased with them, a little bit on the quieter side of things though but play wonderfully and don't miss a single note.
Best thing I could say for speakers is if you have a chance audition the ones you are looking to get, best would be in a vehicle but not always a possibility, more than likely will be on a sound board at an audio shop. Biggest thing to look for I would think would be your preference on soft silk dome tweeters versus hard metalic. Generally this will be a personal preference where some feel metal tweeters can be harsh and bright sounding or more accurate/crips some feel that soft dome tweeters can be more laid back and smoother sounding.
I have MB Quart 6.5" separates in the front doors, and 6.5" coax in the rear doors and back panels, JL stealthbox in the center console, all driven off a single 5 channel amp. It sounds very clean and musical, plenty for me. I tend to like the MBs over Infinity, slightly "smoother" sound IMO, but both are nice.
