Well the 6.4 slowly started dying a year or so back. It's still driveable, but I can't tow with it. Head gasket has a leak, it over heats under any load and pukes coolant...the usual.

I really like the motor, but the complicated electronics, and ram jammed engine bay aren't appealing to me. I had quotes to fix the head gasket, along with studs and whatever else they recommended and the quotes were from $6500-$10000. And it still has the original bottom end, HPOP, and whatever else might want to fail next.

I picked up a 1993 International 5 ton with a DTA360 for $1500, pulled the motor and have tentatively sold the truck for around $1000.

I didn't want to use an auto that might fail next, or spend $5-7000 building a tranny, so I've decided to stay medium duty. I picked up an International reNEWed Spicer ESO66-7b 7 speed tranny for $1500.

Next step is to divorce the factory T-case, and make this big blue beast fit.

I might have a forestry job coming up in a few months....so this thing has to get done in a timely manner....not another dreamer project, it's my only work truck so it has to get back on the road ASAP. Probably going to run the motor stock for now to save time and cost, then worry about making 4-500hp later. ;)

Wish me luck!

That Chansey guy used a Fuller FSO which is a very similar tranny in his dodge, if you look up FSO6406 on google, I think his threads have 90% of the hits...lol

I can't wait to tow with it. Towing with no worries....Good times! This particular tranny has a 50,000lb GVW rating at 660ft lbs of torque.

I got an oil analysis done at the finning lab, this old girl is in perfect shape as far as the oil can tell. I'm going to install it as is to keep the momentum going and run it stock for now.

I found another dt360 for $500 today, I will then get that one rebuilt, and prepped for more power and put it in later.

First project hiccup...the input shaft on the new transmission is quite a bit bigger than the original one. I thought I could put a DT466 flywheel on, but it has a different bolt pattern. Sooooo either find a 52mmx30mm bearing, or get the flywheel machined to fit a bearing that works. Not a big deal...

Pic shows a dt466 bearing above and the dt360 bearing below.

Lets compare note's on this! I understood early dt466's to use the same flywheel at a dt360, same bolt pattern? As for input shaft, what about a different size bearing.. Some clutch kits come with two sizes of bearings in them i have noticed.. I have 2 eso66-7bs on my shop floor, one has a larger pilot bear shaft then the other.. ONLY THE PILOT PART.. I will use this one in my ih dump trk that currently has a wounded 5 spd.. The eso with the smaller pilot shaft, i will use in my F450 project... Any thoughts on those flywheels before i possibly buy the wrong one? My 360 as you may recall is coming out of a bus with a 545 allison..

Interesting, the flywheel that the eso667b came from was a DT466e...I went back to the guys house to grab the flywheel then realized it has 2x as many bolts! So they definitely don't share flywheels.

As far as an early dt466 I can't comment as I haven't seen one in person with a transmission off.

The closest bearing I could find was a 30mm ID x 55mm OD....the OD is 3mm bigger than the factory bearing. I took the flywheel to a machine shop and got the bore cut to 55mm. The flywheel is getting resurfaced right now, so in a couple hours it will be ready to reinstall with the new common bearing.

You must have gotten lucky to get both sized input shafts to choose from!

Ok, that's the difference.. The e series use more bolts on the flywheel.. 10 or 12 i think.. A,b and c series 466's use 8 bolt's.. In simple, pre computer 466's and all dt 360's should share a common bolt pattern.. Almost + on this! Let me know if you find otherwise... as for those trannies, yep got liuck twice.. Shaft size and price.. One's a reman off the shelf with air pto on it, gave 2100.00 with shipping.. The other was a reman with some mile's on it.. Gave 1600.00 with shipping.. Wife didnt think that was lucky though! I said thats why we keep our $$$$ separate!!

ok guy's, got a bit of info on the flywheel topic.. Just to clear things up.. As stated in a previous thread, late style dt466 flywheels will not work, as they have more bolt holes.. Well, i found out this weekend, the oldstyle 466 flywheels do not work either.. They have the same number of bolt holes as the dt360, and nearly all hole will line up, except two.. There are a couple of different flywheels for both engines, but the following is the most common part number.. Dt466= 1810855c93.. The dt360= 673565c93.. Again, there are more models for each engine, these are just the common ones..

Considering your possibly gonna tweak your engine, glad to see you got the twin disc.. Should hold trq up in the 800+ lbft range.. I kinda thought of saving some coin and going the single disc way myself, they hold in the 5 to 600ish lb range.. I dont intend to soup mine up, but that may change down the road.. Mind saying what that one set you back?
