Your "throttle body", or butterfly valve can be removed for a newer "05 intake elbow. However, you may see a CEL. I tried to shut off the CEL with a new SCT tune, but we couldn't get it to work so I put my throttle body back on. Of course, I removed the butterfly valve. Don't know that it did any good but it makes me feel good just the same.
just take the butterfly out..when you put the intake elbow back on, be careful..the threads in the IM are very easy to strip, even before you reach the TQ spec..just snug them up and check them after a few days to make sure they haven't come loose..
On the 03's, the throttle body plate may be there and it may not. You will not get a CEL if you take it out. The throttle body is definitely there on an 04 with the 04 engine and will likely set a CEL if you remove it.
My 03 did not have the plate at all, just the spacer and I did exactly what you are asking about. I put an 05 elbow on in place of the 03 elbow. You will have to remove the throttle body spacer for everything to line up.. Very straightforward install.. Took about 10 minutes.
well thanks for the info. I was going to do the 05-07 elbow cause it looks like it has a better flow radius and I think they look better the 03-04 ones look squatty
They do look better... Having that spacer out of there cleans up the appearance in that area.
If there is any performance benefit, I haven't seen/noticed it..
If you are doing it for looks, I'd say go for it. Certainly, I have spent a ton of cash on mine in the name of looks... But if you are doing it for power, I would say don't spend the money because it is highly unlikely you are gonna notice any gains... Luckily, I got mine free anyway......
all of the latest calibrations have the butterfly disabled..
The 05 style elbow does look better
