If it's a wheeler or a puller/drag truck not too bad if done right. For a daily driver you can expect to scuff the edges of your tires & sooner or later snap an axle shaft if you run it hard.
When you do that you can't help but get weld spatter everywhere, and you'll never get it all out. Expect your bearings to take a dump eventually, the welding trash will eat them up.
Like was previously said, not for a DD, unless you want to rebuild your axle.
I welded my gears front and rear in the pulling truck. DEFINITELY NOT something to do on a street truck. But it was the fastest cheapest way to "install" spools in the pulling truck.
Big difference between a lincoln locker and a posi-traction.....
What about only doing the front gears? Anyone done this on a DD? I am scared to do this with ESOF but I have seal issues and will disable the auto hubs soon. Plus I want to have low 2wd also.
It would work like normal 4x4 if you only locked one hub in. But the catch is the axle shaft on the other side would still be turning & it will bind on tight turns.
