IMHO no more than 1 inch larger than pipe diameter.
I only have a 6" tip because I run a 5" exhaust....7 or 8" is just stupid...especially on a 4" exhaust.
Depends though, if the tip is long enough to where you can't really see where it flares, it looks pretty cool. Now having a tip that goes from 4" to 7"-8" that is only about 10-11" long would look goofy.
If you use a stack and set it back far enough, it would look cool. Otherwise, just stick with a regular tip.
That piece of chit that *had* dual 8" tips is sitting on my parking pad, no long has them, going to 6", which now look too small. I want to do a 5" exhaust cut/welded and moved upward to exit at a downward angle instead of at the horizontal angle all the systems come out at, and i want to just powdercoat the rear tailpipe section and go with that.
It was bigger than a coffee can. I have a picture somewhere.
Truth of it is though, the truck it was on was exceptionally clean and someone did a good job making the exhaust, they just happen to love tug boat tips.
Holy ****! It'd be funny to pull up to a ricer with a coffee can that thinks HIS is big but then gets a look at that thing before getting a cloud of smoke in his face :hehe::hehe:
8" tips look stupid, had them for about a month, just ordered a 7x24" stack. looks much better.
