if its the ford you are talkin about the 3/4 ton came with the 10.25 re it will swap over to a ford dually axle without a problem just go to a junk yard and find one then if you can find a 99-02 short box dually bed it will also sit right on and bolt up right to what you have
Find a set of duals and try to bolt them on. If the studs aren't long enough then just bolt the inner wheel on just to see if there are clearance issues.
The Dana 80 is a tad wider than a 10.5, but I'm not sure if there is a reason for that or if its just the way its built. If everything fits, I don't see why you couldn't use the 10.5. I guess you could always make a spacer to move the duals out a little if you had to, probably wouldn't be the best thing to do, especially for load capacity, but you might be able to get away with it.
Or you could just swap to an 80, but you may have to swap the carrier to go to 3.73. There were some with 3.73's from the factory.
