Hey guys i just bought a 2003 f250 6.0 and got rid of the ole 7.3. I got a great deal on the truck cause the guy said that ford told him it had a blown head gasket but...the truck runs great, has plenty of power and doesnt smoke white or anything so im thinking it could just be a bad oil cooler and that maybe ford was just trying to stroke him. any input would be greatly appreciated.
oh and i forgot the most important thing, theres oil in the coolant and from what ive read the oil coolers go bad on these things pretty often and can cause the oil and coolant to mix. Ive driven the truck about 100 miles so far and it doesnt overheat or anything. Could i be lucky and just have a bad oil cooler?
If you have oil in your coolant, you have a bad oil cooler and driving it that way is only gonna make the repair/cleanup that much harder... And since you have a bad oil cooler, you either have or will have soon, a bad EGR cooler. BTW, my headgaskets were blown and I did not smoke white either, nor was I down on power...
If I were you, I would shut it down and get this fixed right away, (putting in studs and eliminating the EGR cooler altogether).
