Where are you guys finding Valvoline Extreme Blue Synthetic at? I've been to every parts house around here, and the closest thing I can find is just the Premium Blue, non synthetic. Napa, Advance, Oreilly's, Autozone.... none of them carry it. I'd really like to run this on my next oil change, which is coming up pretty soon. Surely I won't have to special order this stuff??
Well I went ahead and got the premium blue because I'm doing the oil change tomorrow, and didn't want to wait on it to be ordered. Just was wondering where I could get it for next time around.
Regular premium blue is pretty good. The synthetic really shines in the winter in a PSD. Any 5w40 will go a long way. Ford recommends a 10w30 below 20* or so, personally I would rather the wider range of coverage with a 5w40 JMHO.
Well I don't have to worry about really cold temps around here. It's almost summer now, which means 95-100 every day. I've always ran synthetic in other vehicles. Just love the durability of it.
I know you said you got some oil already but next time check around the auto stores that are near rv parks...They usually stock up on it because there are alot of diesels goin through there,
The guys iv talked to say the premium blue is pretty durable... Its not a synthetic but its very good. Also, i didnt need the 5w40 either as out here in Sacramento, CA im not getting down into the 20* and less tempatures. Later when i can start affording it i will start running the extreme blue, but as of now i will be just fine with the premium
I can get it at O'Reilly's but you have to talk to the manager. They have to order it and the manager here had to actually do the leg work for the counter guys. They can only get it by the case which I think is 4 gallons and it's about 19 to 20 dollars a gallon thru O'Reilly's. They can get it, you just need to help them along with tracking it down. Tell them you know a guy in Burlington, N.C. who gets it from his local O'Reilly's.
I have 2 vehicles i pay much attention to. and the oil reports iv seen with mobil 1 on the gas engine i have are not as good as schaeffers and amsoil. Penzoil platenum is even better than mobil 1.
Thats for gas engine. LS1 chevy motor. But the the oil analysis iv looked at , and were explained to me somewhat, show in order, Schaeffers at the top, then amsoil a VERY close second, then Penzoil Platenum. This guy on the LS1 forum i am on is a oil guru. If you have any questions he is a very knowledgable guy. Here's a link the thread with the reports.
Car Quest brand oil is made by the same people that make Valvoline. I’ve run both the Car Quest 15w-40 and the Valvoline premium blue and I can’t teal a difference. You might could find synthetic Car Quest oil at your dealer if not they might order it for you. I’m putting a Kleenoil bypass oil filter on my truck as soon as I can. And I thank I’m going to try synthetic oil then.
Worked at napa back in 95 yes their oil is made by Valvoline too !
Firm believer in valvoline at least in my gassers. I do run mobile one in my scion tho I need to pull a sample and get it looked at. Could not afford amsoil this change, so I went mobile 1.
My dad runs Kleenoil on a 4300 international with a DT466 under the hood. The DT466 uses a HEUI injection like the 7.3 and 6.0 Powerstrokes. The truck runs good and we get longer out of an oil change. I work for Caterpillar and just got done with my training in the CAT Think Big Program where my instructor told me that Caterpillar is getting away from the HEUI system because of problems with contaminated oil coursing problems with the injectors. I’m hoping that the Kleenoil will prevent me from having a contamination problem.I also know of several other companies running Kleenoil on their trucks and heavy equipment. If you rely wont to know about Kleenoil give Brent or Scott a call down at Sudden Performance I’m shore they would more than happy to talk to you about one.
I went looking for some this evening and found the extreme blue 15-40 at advance auto for $12.99 a gallon.. This cant be right do they make it in a traditional oil or is it purely a synthetic under the extreme label. Maybe it was out of place on the rack but it was full.....
I run Mobil one turbo diesel truck with no issues. But I run mobil one in our Mustang GT, the Uplander Mini van and the 496 Big block in my speed boat so im a little bias I guess.
Unless I'm looking at the wrong Valvoline (Valvoline Premium, blue bottle)when I go into Walmart or Meijers, that oil reads on the bottle for gasoline engines. So I didn't think you would use that for a diesel engine? Am I looking at the wrong oil? Also the Ford dealership I used to take my truck to always used Rotatella. I went back to changing the oil myself every 5k miles and using synthetic Rotatella @ $20.00/gal at Walmart. But after reading through these posts I figure I'd better switch. It doesn't sound like there is much of a price diff between Rot and Valv. How often are you guys changing your oil anyways?
