Dont know what is causing this, truck has dual stealth pumps and hybrids. Maybe air in the pumps, after it sits and idles for a while it will smooth out. Thought about adding a aux feed line to my resivoir but have not yet.
Ive seen this also. I always attributed it to aeration of the oil. Usually after the return road on the track, getting the time slip, and letting it idle a minute or two its back ot normal.
i have a similar issue, only not for so long. it started right after my injectors and tunes. i figured it was just the tunes, but the oil thing makes sense. i also thought it could be that my egt's skyrocket after a hard run and te injectors are coming off their high! :redspotdance: is htere a remedy if it is an oil issued? does it do any harm to agitate the oil so much? i also see this for 5-10 seconds after pulling off the freeway or stopping at a red light. i was never too concerned about those though. been contributing it all to the tunes i got since these are my first custom codes. eeman:
My truck does this also. Mine seems to sound kind of like it has a lopey idle tune in it for a little while then clears up. But other times it does it as soon as I start my truck up. I thought it could have been a tuning issue as far as getting loaded up wth too much fuel with no load on the engine. I also had this thought since my truck blows a steady haze of smoke at idle.
Has everyone seen this after installing new injectors only (low mile injectors)? I think it might have something to do with clearances in the injector needles getting tight from the heat of a WOT run. I think the tips get hot and cause the clearances to get a little tight. This would probably go away once the injectors get some miles on them because of the pins wearing to their bores.
Black Betty will do the same thing but it seems to get better with some 2 cycle oil in the fuel.
Mine does it after I accelerate, then get out of it and let it idle. Like in second or third gear doing 28ish mph and up especially. It clears up after a few seconds though and idles smooth. My buddies has the same set up other than a 38r and has the same deal. But overall they both run just fine. No big concerns as mine has been consistent for over 1.5 yrs with this set up.
i've had my injectors in for 12k miles and it still does it if i am on the throttle hard for a bit. I dont think it has anything to do with the mileage on the injectors.
I really think it is an oil aeration issue, mainly due to the nature of the HPOP.
How old is your oil? There is a line of thought that the Dual pumps, (Any ones) will shear the oil much quicker. Even if you have synthetic, don't try to run extended oil changes is what I understand.
Luke, I know you have heard of this, haven't you? Could this be the problem if your getting airation?
Well it always seemed to do it a little after pulling a long hill with my enclosed car hauler, not nearly as bad tho. I have always run delvac 1 synthetic oil and just recently switched to motorcraft synthetic, but I also added some hybrids, forged rods and custom tunes at the same time. I was thinking on the next oil change I would switch back to the delvac 1. I dont think it would have anything to do with tuning, not a lope or anything similar, but more like a one or two cylinder miss.
Last night a put a fuel pressure gauge on it and ran it pretty hard and had no drop in fuel pressure.
Should I throw the gauge on the resevoir and see what happens on a WOT run?
I had this issue with my hybrids and Stealths. Ran an extra line from next to the oil filter up to the reservoir and that helped some but did not totally fix it. Is anyone running Termys with remote IPRs? I thought that I had heard the IPR is a source of aeriation, and the remotes would help. JAT.
could it be that your low pressure oil pump is warn and cant refill the reservoir after a hard run fast enough. I have the same issue and ordered a melling pump from ITP as it take sometime for the needle to move with start ups. Happen here and there.
Did not do it nearly as bad with the stock split shots, almost never. I would think that the problem might be worse with the splits caus they use more oil, but I am just guessing?
My engine is bone stock with tunes ( 40 & 60 tow) and it will do the same thing. Didn't do it before the tunes. And doesn't do it in the stock tune. I think it's loaded up with fuel and takes a few seconds to clean up. Just a guess.
My injectors have about 45k on them. It has done it since I got the injectors reworked. It has done it since I got the motor back in the truck. I was thinking that it was due to being loaded up on fuel with little load on the motor, also since my truck puts out a steady haze at idle.
I can't remember all of the specs off the top of my head and I can't remember where I have them written down at.
I want to say that they are .7 edm honed injectors but don't qoute me on that. I do know that they only changed the Dragonfly nozzles over to Dragonflow nozzles. The internals are all the same as the Dragonfly's.
I have (had) the same issue. Right up until the valve seat fell out, i did two very HOT (headers were glowing orange, played the video back), full throttle runs, picked up the cameraguy, then within the next two or three minutes, runs realll rough, oil temp went from 165 to 230* in a matter of minutes, and the truck just petered out going down the road.. still wondering what it is, and if i am going to run into that issue when i go to start it up the first time again.
