I just got my EGR delete kit on from FCDP. I was extremely proud of myself for getting it on and not breaking anything. I did a little science project on the EGR cooler. Not that I was going to put it back on or anything. I plugged one of the coolant holes and the exaust side flange with shop towels (that's all that I had), I pressurized the coolant tube while I stuck the other (intake) end in a bucket of water. It had to build up some pressure but it started to blow bubbles in the water. I am pretty sure it aint supposed to leak into the intake. I was on cloud 9 until I cranked it up after the install. It was still smoking. I have not drove it yet because I have not cleaned up the 9 b'gillion tools that I have strowed out all over the shop. I have came to the conclusion that the EGR was bad thus leaking coolant into the up pipe, which the exaust was picking some of it up blowing it thru the y pipe into the turbo then leaking out between the turbo and exaust flange onto the motor. I was worried that my turbo was bad. I took it apart and cleaned'er up. Now I just hope my head gaskets aint shot. I called the local stealership and they told me that a ballpark price to install headgaskets and check heads would be around 2,200-2,300$. He told me that included headgaskets and studs in that price. Does this sound like a fair price? I am sure that at least 1500$ of that is labor.
Kudos for the EGR swap, i did mine about a month or so ago. It will smoke for a couple of days i was told, it should be getting rid of the left over coolant. 2300 sounds better than the 6000 from my stealership. You might call around and see if someone else might tackle the headstuds and gaskets, might want to go ahead and do some aftermarket headstuds while the gaskets are getting done, just a lil preventative maintenance.
Yea I mentioned getting the aftermarket ARP head studs and he told me that the "kit" they had included studs and gaskets. I am a lil leary of them because I figure that's what is in the truck now. I just let the truck idle about 10 minutes or so, enough to let the temp hand move.
I "THINK" my head gaskets are ok. I ran the truck over an hour today just checking cows and running around. Smoked pretty good for a few miles but then quit. I think it was the coolant in the exuast system i hope. I am gonna keep my fingers crossed.
