78' F150 to a 7.3 swap?

Ive seen alot of you guys swapped 7.3 and 6.0's into some nice rides. Just wondering how hard it was and what all you had to do to get a 7.3 into a 78'?

Here is a pic of my truck, it has 9" suspension lift and a body lift, and dana
60's front and rear. if I had a doaner truck engine, trans and transfer case, all the wiring what do you think?

Awsome truck, Don't know much about the swap, but if you have the money and knowledge, go for it, that would be sweet to see some coal rolling out of those stacks.

Re: 78' F150 to a 7.3 swap?

I'm thinkin you better get the 10.25/10.5 rear with the donor truck or you'll get REAL good at replacing parts in a Dana 60 rear. Same RG diameter and all..... just not the same.

As far as the swap, I would get the tranny and t-case with it. The aluminum F-series T-case is stronger/lighter than any of that old iron gear drive stuff.

If you get the vehicle chassis harness and the accelerator pedal it should be a snap to get it going. I've run my engine from a stand-alone harness before. Had it running within the day. About half a day actually.

Re: 78' F150 to a 7.3 swap?

Cool thanks for the info. Ive got alot of experiance tearing the 60 apart. Ive broken I dont know how many axle shafts front and rear. Ive also relaced axles with "suposeably stronger " axles they didnt last very long either. I have seen a few guys on here do some 60s but I like the 7.3s myself.
