I cleaned my EGR today and it was horrible and it only has 27000 miles. And my chip was only on there for about 3 weeks(accidently locked it up by playing with on on a few to many buddies trucks and havent sent it back to sct to be fixed yet). I was lookin at it and was wonderin if I could just machine a plug that is the same size as the egr that would bolt down just like the egr and put it in there to block the flow. I would be easy to install and easy to put the egr back if it has to go to the dealer. Would this work? I don't see why not I go access to a lathe I think im gonna make a plug then tig weld a flange on so that I can bolt it down.
As long as it seals at the top and bottom it should work. The new kits that are out that delete the cooler too, are nice and fair priced. Just might save u some time.
there is a spool that fits in place of the EGR valve that i have seen on ebay and woudl problably be easier than machining your own. It is best to delete the whole EGR system, but since your truck is under warranty that may be a problem.
That EGR plug is a good idea but then you trap the hot exhaust inside the EGR cooler. Too many hot runs may cause the coolant to flash boil or rupture the cooler. I suggest you use the EGR plug with a modded EGR up-pipe to prevent those issues. If you have the extra bucks to spent and vehicle down time doesn't bother you then you should delete the whole EGR system with a complete kit.
THE COOLER NEEDS TO BE REMOVED. WILL VALVE PLUGED THE COOLER CAN STILL LEAK. I MADE MY OWN DELETE BY WELDING UP BOTH ENDS OF THE EGR COOLER WITH STAINLESS STEEL AND CUTTING THE SCOOP FROM THE INLET PIPE. JUST UNPLUGGED THE EGR VALVE TO STOP IF FROM OPERATING
Yea I was just lookin for an easy install that would help and be real easy to put back if it needs to go to the stealership. I think that I am just gonna get a spare uppipe and weld her shut and hope I don't have to go to the pain of switching it if I do have to take it in. Anyone got a spare uppipe they would be willin to sell of know what they cost from ford. Never had a pipe off before how thick are they and are they mild or stainless. Either way no biggie I am very good with a tig welder.
Gettig it off is a bit@h.
I just pulled my intake off and sent it to Adam @ FCDP.
I think you would have to pull the turbo but I could be wrong. I would hate to do this everytime I when to the dealership.
