That's what mine looks like but just not powder coated. Just have to have some time to take them in and have that done. I also have blue split wire cover to replace the black under the hood.
I plan on getting mine done in powder when I can have the truck down for several days... Best finish in my opinion. Easiest to clean, resistant to scratches, knicks, etc...
My battery boxes on the frame rail are still great looking. The harshness of 10k miles under the truck has not affected the finish at all...
The air traveling through the charge air tubes is far, far, far hotter than the ambient air traveling around them.
If anything, you would want to put heat-sinks around them so the air in the engine compartment could suck heat out of them...
Fwiw, my engine isn't even painted, lol. Stock valve covers, stock intake manifold boots, stock Van intake, unpolished aluminum tubing. Only thing I had to coat was the compound setup ductwork. If I'd done it out of 304 stainless I would have gladly left it uncoated. But, I couldn't have it rusting away, so I coated it in the 2000 degree flat black.
Jim would have done the blingin ceramic chrome looking stuff.
Tom, cosmic grey is on the wish list, very clean and not too bling. Do you remember what it did for turbo sound? I don't want to end up with something that makes the whiste too loud in the cab. Thanks.
when i did the foil delete on my truck(2001 f250) it made the whole diesel idle knocking sounds about twice as loud. The wistle isnt loud but the general engine noise is way loud.
Are you saying the black chrome looks like Tom's tubes? I have seen black chrome rims and they are basically chrome, just with a dark tint to them. They did not look like the gunmetal grey that Tom used.
well havin them done with line x isnt much different than powder coating then and it also keeps the heat from the engine and heat from the engine bay from warming the tubes and the air inside the tubes i noticed a difference in mine after i had them coated
What the coater is calling "black chrome" looks nothing like the finish on the wheels. I was skeptical too til I saw it on a sample he had. It looks very close to what Tom has pictured above. The name for that color might be falwed.
The real black chrome would look nice on the tubes. I could not keep them clean enough though, it would be better suited for someone like Tom. He is obviously not arrresting enough people because he keeps his engine compartment spotless.oke:
