Everything seemed pretty good after cleaning up the engine & reseating the boots. Got some boost back. Turbo doesn't seem to be spooling right though. But, tonight, I went for a short ride & could hear what sounded like a vacuum leak.....and I had NO BOOST AT ALL!!! So, I got to the mechanics shop which was closed & checked my gauge line, it keeps coming out. It was FINE!! Everything 'seems' fine! When I got back in & left, it was normal again!! I'm going to kill it!!!!
I'm not sure why I was hearing such a OBVIOUS vacuum sound, ANYONE GOT A CLUE???
Everyone I know says to get a Dodge....sorry, not happening.:blah:
The only vacuum in the system will be between the air filter and turbo inlet. The rest of the intake system will be under PRESSURE.
Are you sure you don't have a boost leak somewhere still? If you had NO boost for real, not just a gauge problem, then you are boot slipping or a cracked intercooler, etc.
Did you check the system with a boost leak detector and shop air?
Yes, stock turbo, & NO I haven't checked for leak yet! Its been good & was good again AFTER I stopped & looked at everything. Boots, gauges, etc.
Cracked intercooler? hmmmm, would that come & go? I had a 'burp' about a month ago, no boost, but it sounded different. Did the same thing, just went away when I stopped. Also note, I ran some diesel kleen thru it this tank, 85 miles ago....injector? slug coming off? It wouldn't ake a hiss or ? whatever that was would it???? LEAK TEST IN A.M.
I even checked my 4wheel drive line to see if that came off again. Nope.
I don't know your whole situation, but that vacuum sound your talking about sounds awfully like the EBPV is closed... Maybe this has already been talked about and ruled out, but I'm just throwing it out there.
that was 1 thing I was pondering the past couple of weeks. So it does make a strange sound then? If so, thats what I'm checking next!!! It HAS NOT been ruled out at all. I was actually going to pull the tube off to clean it, so u mean the sensor huh??
and this is caused by what? That doesn't look so pretty. I'm really getting pissed at my mechanic who I begged weeks ago to help me pull the turbo & at LEAST put new o-rings on, just becuz its stock & apparently original. I did have a leak under the Y, but I seemed to have gotten it fixed....
I guess what I was getting at is that you may not have a problem at all. The EBPV closes below 50*F(I think) to help your truck warm up quicker. When the valve is closed, you will hear a jet or vacuum cleaner type sound coming from your engine. This is normal. After the engine warms up it should go away and your truck should operate normal. While the EBPV is closed, your truck will accelerate slowly and be kind of doggy all around.
:whs: When the ebpv is closed (when cold), it makes a noticable amount of 'air' noise and power/boost drops to nil. It does this intermittently during operation. The default position is open (unless it is stuck closed). You can gut it (a fair amount of work with a good result) or just unplug the solenoid that operates the valve.

So you put your boost gauge line back together?
My guess is that your MAP sensor was not reading any boost pressure and your guage obviously was not reading any boost pressure because your boost line had loosened and popped out. When your MAP sensor can't see actual pressure, the truck will not increase your fuel properly. No boost, no fuel. Thats why your truck doesn't feel right.
Fix your leak and your problem should go away for good.
Yeah. I would make absolutely sure the map line was hooked up and wire the ebpv open. Then get a scan tool or anything that can read your MAP sensor and make sure it's reading correctly. Then see if it rises under normal boosting conditions.
