Exhaust gases are HOT when you hammer it and with a compromised gasket, they are heating your coolant up. Wait until the gasket gets bad enough that every time you step on it you lose the heat!
Mine were warped out the azz. I did drive it 400 miles loaded after the EGR cooler let go trying to get home though...at least everything directly behind the tail pipe go steam cleaned oke:
They had to surface my heads beyond what is allowed to get them flat and then recess the valves so that they would clear the pistons. I had Bean do some "work" to the EGR system while he was under there, and with some ARPs I'm back running good again.
