Need Advice On This Excursion

Looking at a possible purchase of 2002 Excursion Limited 7.3 diesel that is about 7 hours away from me. Therefore at the moment I'm depending on pictures and conversation. Interior is very clean, with no obvious wear. Vehicle has 157k on it, with the last 60k being in ranch county.

Plan on getting a pre-sale inspection at the local Ford dealer service department. Problem is it's a small town and hopefully there's a mechanic that knows his diesels.

Here's a couple photos of the engine and underside. Total life spent where there is no salt.

Apparently there is oil in the valley up top which is either contributing to, or causing all the apparent oil on the pan.

Couple questions.......

1. If it is say a turbo or high pressure oil pump gasket leak above....expensive...easy to do?

2. Does the underside look normal for that mileage considering that it is out in the country, with some gravel road use?

3. Could the dust accumulation on tube in the engine picture be because of the upper leak getting oil on the tube and allowing for dust sticking to it?

4. The door and front quarter don't line up right, as evidenced by the pin stripping. Apparently the hinges may be tilted upward causing the seperation....easy fix?

Thanks in advance. I know nothing about these rigs, but plan on buying one soon.

I just bought a 2000 Excursion a few months ago and it too had oil all over the pan and down the back of the engine. I replaced the orings on the turbo pedestal and it fixed the oil leak completely. The genius that owned it before me had crammed nearly a whole role of blue shop towels in the valley in an attempt to mask the leak. The orings are really cheap to purchase , you have to pull the turbo and pedestal to replace them. I bought a wicked wheel 2 and the orings came with the wheel and done it all in one Sat. afternoon. My X had around 144k on her and it looked pretty much the same on the undercarriage with the exception of a really clean tranny that had been replaced 3k miles before i bought it. I cant speak on the door alignment since mine still line up good. hope this helps
