I'm thinking of getting into a 6.4. I found a great price on an 09 F350 - CCLB 4x4 Lariat. Only sticking point is it has 300k miles, BUT supposedly the motor was replaced at 200k. The engine has a sticker on the valve cover indicating it is a remanufactured motor. S/N is 405935. Have no experience with 6.4's; what problem areas should I look at?
I own a 6.4 but only have 50K on mine so I cant talk from experience. From what I read on here though before buying mine is that even 200K miles is alot for a 6.4 if it hasnt been deleted and tuned for most of its life. I would find out where and when the replacement motor was installed to verify that there for sure was one. With that many miles you should be also looking at suspension components for wear.
HPFP would be the largest concern for me, followed by suspension, drivetrain, and then the internals of the motor itself. I have 140k on mine, all original, tuned and deleted at 125k. Runs perfect, but the original owner took really good care of it ( I bought it for 24k). For the right price, it might be a good buy. But to be honest, you can buy some really nice 6.4's for $25-$30k, so it better be a smoking deal.
Good price and new motor to boot, exactly what I did Deleted DPF, Tuned and driven to piss haha. I do "baby" it cold and take good care of her but she gets her work out all the time. Check the usual 6.4 points and enjoy.
