Here's the deal. Got an 03 6.0. Ran good to town, no miss nothing abnormal. Parked went into best buy maybe 1 hour, truck just cranked. Cycles the glowplugs, 58 psi fuel pressure, good oil pressure, full tank of fuel. Got it towed home, put on the scanner, cranking icp runs 1800, ipr 87%, ficm power 48 volts, my only question is when you have a hpop leak will these numbers change? Or a bad ficm, need help don't make me go to the ford dealer.
Are you sure the ICP you read wasn't desired rather than actual? 1800 psi seems really high for cranking. If you had a HPO leak, you would likely only see 300-400 psi ICP.
Answers most of my questions. My readings icp are koeo .25V, was reading desired (my bad). Actual readings are 350 psi cranking. My question is it a hpop leak or a bad pump?
Oil level full, checked that already. Was changed bout 500 miles ago. What readings do you look for with an ipr. Checked the plug and wiring to it, it was dry no oil. Reason thought the pump was maybe bad because the truck has 170k was running 190cc inj just switched to stock again about 3k miles ago. Guess I need to tear it apart and see. Just don't want to start throwing parts off before I know where the problem is. Thought someone surely has seen something similar. Thanks a lot for the posts. Also been on other powerstroke forums and everyone either reads and doesn't post, or they don't read at all.
The IPR "reading" can be perfectly normal and still be bad, often time what happens is that a tiny piece of debris can get into the IPR (even though it has a screen on it) and damage it and it will bleed off ICP even though it looks fine and operated normaly when looking at a scan tool, this may or may not be your problem.
All right i'll check that first thing tomorrow after work. Would be easier to replace the ipr than have to replace the hpop. Thanks for the info will keep posting my progress and what I find out.
I think your 87% IPR duty cycle while cranking indicates a HPO system leak.
I'd start by pulling the left valve cover and pressurizing the HPO system with shop air. Pull the allen screw out of the center of the HPO rail. Turn it out slowly and wiggle it as you go to relieve pressure in the system. If you don't do this, hang on to it very tightly when it pops off! Once it's out, use a rubber tip on an air gun to pressurize the system. Typical shop air pressure is 150-250 psi, which is 1/10th the usual HPO system pressure, but it's usually enough to expose the HPO system leak.
Once you have the system pressurized, listen very closely for any noises coming from either the left or right HPO rails or in the HPOP area. The air leak should help lead you to the problem.
I also read someplace that the 03 HPOP has teeth on the gear drive that can wear out (made of plastic?). So that would probably what I'd look at next if the air test didn't produce any noticeable leaks.
Pulled the ipr noticed some white looked mixed with oil. Replaced my oil cooler same time as injectors could it be from that? Other than that it looked fine.
No i don't otherwise would try that. Ran out of time. Pulled turbo and the cover for the hpop. Nothing looks abnormal. Busy rest of week probably won't get to it until saturday.
Wow guys just got it back together. Pulled the ipr, remembered i had one from on my brothers motor sittin out. Took some mass air flow cleaner to it, cleaned it good. Put everything back on, bout 10 seconds cranking it fired right up. Thanks to all who took time to respond.
