It's a cool idea. However, the commentary written under the video is complete bull crap. This is not a new concept, and the U.S. oil companies, banks, and media are not trying to stiffle it. In fact, pre-orders from one company are available and the cars will begin delivery in 2009 or 2010. Although to start with, those cars will be hybrids (gasoline engine/compressed air engine), and are estimated to get over 100 mpg. They are in direct competition and a likely candidate to win the Automotive X Prize, an award for developing and selling the first 100+ MPG vehicle.
CNN has done a report on this car, and so has Popular Mechanics. As this car gets closer to reality and delivery date, expect to see a lot more info pop up.
If this car actually does what is expected, the bailout plan for the big 3 automakers won't be enough. They had better get on this now and start developing their own models using compressed air engines.
And here is the XPrize page for the Auto industry. There is also a link on this page showing the registered contestants. MDI is one of them with their compressed air vehicle: http://www.progressiveautoxprize.org/
Cool idea but why do they have to make them so fugly
