Yesterday after i moved my dads 03' 6.0L Excursion around the driveway i noticed something leaking under drivers side of the truck, I got under the truck and it turned out to be antifreeze. I dont think the head gaskets are dunzo cause it runs fine and doesnt smoke white or drip liquid out of the tailpipe so my question is could it be the EGR cooler? how can i tell what it is?
Also check in the valley for coolant. It could leak out of the short hose, or just about anywhere around the cooler if it's bad. Trace the lines etc. as well.
the common head gasket failure on these is due to excessive cyl pressure causing combustion gases to enter the cooling system and forcing coolant out the degas top. not into the intake sys like gas motors. but when the egr cooler goes bad internally it will smoke like a train and fill the exhaust with coolant.
I well let everybody know, after it happen to me and talking with a couple of Ford techs, is the lower radi. hose sometimes rubs the steering box and mine rubbed a hole right though the hose and start leaking coolant.
