You almost can't beat that price. For $239 you almost can't buy a stock replacement let alone high output. You may save a few dollars at a local alternator shop but chances are just as good that they would charge you just as much. I would stick with a product that you have had success with.
I have DB's H.O. black powdercoated 200amp that's rated at 100-105amp @ idle and 200amp at 1200rpm After talking to a few high amp stereo guys I just didn't think the little 4ga wire kit that I bought with the alt from DB was sufficient so I went to the 1/0 Kolossus Kable for the power cable from Knukonceptz. I went with their inline fuse holder with a 250amp ANL fuse because the one from DB is quite generic. Still haven't installed it though, I just haven't felt like taking everything off of the front end to install it yet. Figured I'd just install it wwhen I need to replace the serpentine belt
Bunch of people over on another diesel (garage) site have had a lot of credibility problems with the DB so-called high amp alternators.
200 amp alternators (14!) that wouldn't test over 130-140 amps or so. All were sent back; they were part of a group buy - you think someone would have made sure that a group buy was right - it wasn't. People ordering 130 amp alternators and it shows up with a tag that says "105"; this one wasn't tested, so who knows?
Here's one that intrigues me, other than the fact they have no clue that there is no such thing as a "6.5 PSD"!

You can question it all you want. Do a search over there, all 14 were returned. Search on alternator, the second thread is the group buy; one of the last posts is the guy that has the 105 or 135 alternator. bcarraview (sp) did the group buy of 14. I don't recall who had the 105 marked alternator, but he shows a pic of the alternator and the tag with the 105 amps for something he thought was a 130 amp unit.
So did you actually buy one of these so called "low output" alts? Did you personally see that person fill out the order form? Did you actually put a gauge to a 200amp HO alt and it read less than 200amp? If it had a 105amp tag on it then wouldn't it stand to reason for a person with common sense that the alt was a 105amp alt and just maybe someone screwed up when ordering?
Bottom line is DB is a respected company. Could there be 14 bad alts in one 14 alt order? I'd lean torward the wrong alts were ordered myself IMO. 14 of 14 bad- yeah right :hehe:
I find the posts about the group buy screwup far more credible than your nonsense. Go read them for yourself, other than posting the link direct, which violates this boards COC which I won't do, you have more than enough information to see for yourself. Of course, if you want to keep your head in the sand, feel free to do that also.
Here's another hint: go do a search on "starter" and read about all the DB starters that have failed right after the one year warranty is up. There's not a lot of them but there's enough to dispute the "a respected company" crap. That's not even factoring in the group buy fiasco.
WOW, you know what albin....you're cooler than me buddy because I find the 2 boards I'm already a member of taking up alot of time to even consider joining another one just to do a search LOL I will tell you one thing though I've heard of their starters lasting a long time but am I going to argue about it...why no, because I"VE NEVER OWNED ONE kinda like you and a DB alternator..right:shrug:You said it best in the first sentence up there in post #23

There you go- you proved my point but you know what I'm tired of arguing with you, you're argument is mute to me. All you are posting is hearsay ointlaugh: Have a nice life listening to what everyone has to tell you and not what you actually experience on your own. Now I'm done with you...good bye:doh:
I was one of the guys in the group buy Albin mentioned... The alts came in boxes marked as 200 amp. DB was called and they said, "Whoops! We put them in the wrong box but we guarantee them to be 220's." So Bill (the guy that made the order) took a random sampling to a shop and had them tested. None of the tested alts came even close to 200amps, let alone 220, regardless of rpm or anything else.... Bill called DB about it and they said, "return 'em" so he did. A week or so later, they told Bill they could not deliver us the requested 220's for an undetermined time period and refunded our money.....
Maybe you will have good luck with a DB but the bottom line with that deal was, the alts were not 220's or even close.....
BTW, a very close buddy of mine had his DB alt go out on him less than 2 months out of the one year warranty period...... DB basically told him too bad.... No offer to help at all... Now, I would not expect them to just pick up the tab on a new one bug geez, if it can't go any longer than 14 months, it isn't worth the money....... Needless to say, he is not buying another and after my experience with the group buy and his experience with the DB he had, I will not be buying a DB alt, ever...

Yet, even today, DB is still advertising their 220 amp high power alternator for the Ford 6.0 as evidenced by their website link provided above (and refreshed to ensure it's the latest).
So that pretty much leaves you with three choices:
- Slightly incompetent (ineffective communication between Engineering/Manufacturing and their Advertising/Web Site developer - not really a biggie unless they lie about it, see below).
- Highly incompetent (can't design and build high power alternators that they can actually deliver)
- Unethical (can't design and build high power alternators and know it but are still selling them as such).

Show me a parts store that wouldn't have told your buddy the same thing  ALL a part is garanteed to work is to the end of the warranty period meaning if it quits 12 hrs after that then you really shouldn't expect nothing except maybe that they'll sell you another one at full price IMHO.
I just got mine in today, I will install it tommorow.
As Charles stated, this 220amp alternator uses a bit of smaller pulley, but it doenst seem to be much of an issue (overspinning) these since most of our truck rev limiter is 4150 or less.
I had actually put a smaller pulley on my stock alternator..it worked pretty well, I do not think it was the demise of my alternator. This is my original alt. with a good bit of mileage on it, plus alot of electronics off of it..I know alot of people have replaced alts. twice since they had the truck..mine is 6 years old..not too shabby I dont think.
a little off subject of yalls argument but what voltage are the regulators set to run at on those alts. and is there any way to turn up the voltage on a stock unit to around 14 volts from the 12.5
single i have checked it with several differant meters and they all say the same. i have nevr asked the dealer to check it since it never has a problem with the batteries dying or slow starts.
hopefully they will i have always wondered what other peoples 6.0 charging voltage was and have always thought it to be really low on this truck when most vehicles charge at 14 or close to it.
Beware of Quickstart Automotive unless you are close enough to pick up at the store front. Their customer service sux in a bad way. I ordered a 160a heavy duty alternator back in Sep 2008. The alternator was bad and after exchanging e-mails and phone calls (which they have a hard time returning), they finally sent me a new alternator this month. The owner sounds honest enough but I do not thing they are capable of running an Internet business yet.
Well I just got off the phone with the db folks. Very helpful considering I was calling about this group buy stuff which I wasnt involved in.
Heres what I was told.
Yes there was a problem with the alternators at the time that buy happened, yes they were not putting out what they were suposed to. Also they said they refunded everyones money that purchased one of the alts in question AND they tried to contact the customers to let them know when the new atlernator was available. The new alternator puts out what it claims and they said if a customer has any doubts then have it tested locally. If it doesnt do as claimed they will happily refund the customers money.
So as far as Im concerned they are still a "high quality" company with a kick butt reputation.
ALL my starter and alternator stuff will come from db.
is that a stock alt or one of them aftermarket ones. and if aftermarket what was the voltage of the factory one?
