Just bought a early 1999 F-350 srw. It has a 4" lift and 315's (35"). I really like the look of it but for gooseneck reasons, I thought about lowering it down to around 2" but still keeping the 315's.
My question is, as anyone lowered a truck without buying a whole other kit? All i would have to do to the rear is remove the lift blocks. It somehow had a one piece ds already installed (ext cab/lb) so no carrier bearing to worry about. and the front has springs (6 leaf pack) and what looks like drop spring hangers. Could i remove the two smallest leafs from the bottom, they arent more than 2" past the cast leaf spring perch on the axle?
Here's a picture of it. I was going to leave the factory blocks in the back which is about 3"-4" i think. and just have roughly 1.5"-2" in the front, so basically a leveling kit.
Going off the pics, it looks like a 6 inch to me, but I'm no expert. It definitely isn't a 4".
Going with basically a leveling kit would do you just fine.
That looks like a 4" to me I have one with a 4" on it. What size block do you have in the back ? You will need a factory trac bar bracket and sway bar end links. The tire size depends on the wheel i would think you will be fine under normal conditions not extreme off road with 2.5" lift in the front and 3" in the back. But i don't know how the back is lifted block or block and add a leaf or if the springs have been replaced. There is alot of variables with out see ing the truck in person to do an evaluation.
im almost positive its not a 6". A buddy of mine has a '04 f250 with 6" kit and 37" and it towers over mine. The rear has the factory block and an addition lift block which is about 3". I've never been a fan of stacking blocks but alot of companies actually sell kits that do it. Looked under it this weekend and thinking that pulling the rear lift blocks and leaving the factory ones. Then pulling off the front spring hanger drop brackets and maybe the one smallest leaf.
It is a pavement pounder/hauler. I have a built jeep it pulls for offroading. So having alot of wheel travel isn't needed. The most it sees is the gravel road to the trail head or pastures to hook up the horse trailer.
I figured the track bar bracket and sway bar links. the physical lowering of the truck is what im wondering about. I may just try it and see and let yall know!
After futher examination, i discovered that i have drop brackets and a mini pack in the front on factory ford springs (found the stamp on the bottom) so thinking of just pulling the mini pack and running factory front springs with the drop brackets.
As for the rear, the factory block appears to be about 4" (guessing since its a 350) and the lift block about 3.75. Maybe pull both and buy a set of 6" tall block to put it about 2" over stock? Any one know of rear spring that are interchangeable? I'd prefer to have little to no block and still have the factory overload spring. I didn't know if 99.5-04 had a taller spring and less block cause ive heard the later models had a smaller block.
Here's how it sits now. 8" hitch is being used so the front set of tires will actually touch the ground.
