Hey Guys,
Newbee post here.
How accurate is checking the fuel mileage by filling the tank till the station pump automatically kicks off? I do this till it does and then round to the closest dollar and quit. I then divide gals/miles. This is the only easy way i know to check it. I try to use the same place and make sure it is level.
The reason I ask is that my mileage has went down as I add aftermarket parts. I was banging out 16.8-17mpg with my stock 06, 6.0 on a bi-monthly trip I make, which includes city, 2 lane rural mtns and I-77 driving @65 to 75mph. I added a Banks Bullet, S&B intake, CFM+ intake elbow, and Magnaflow 5" catback. (I know 5" is overkill but it was the same price as the 4") and my mileage went to 14.3 to 14.5mpg on the same 460 mile trip. My first thought and the support tech said that my heavy foot and new toys was the cause but it's been 5 months and the thrill has wore off some. He also said my check method was inaccurate. I went back to driving it normal and only use the bullet when nessacary and it hasn't gotten any better. I just feel if it was my math or method, it would be erratic and not just lower. I've asked others with mods and they say the same thing as I, "more power but no noticeable MPG gain." I'm new the the diesel game. So, 1, Does this "more power-no MPG gain ring true for you guys? 2. Any comment on the fuel mileage accuracy issue? Thanks in advance, J.B. Lockard, Wharncliffe, West "by God" Virginia. Long live PSN! :ford:
