I have an 03 on my 2005. I noticed a drop in EGTs by roughly 100* at cruising speed and temps recovered alot faster as well. As far as seat of the pants difference, I really didn't notice anything. However I was able to pick up around 3-4lbs of boost and noticed quicker spool/less lag.
here is a video of what mine sounds like, just to give you an example.
I got mine for a member of another website. New in the plastic wrap sitting in a its box for $600. I would suggest going ahead and spending the extra money to get a "new" turbo. The extra money is worth the piece of mind knowing that you don't have bad seals or anything like that.
you cand buy them brand new from the dealer. Every once in a while you are able to find brand newe units for awesome deals. I found in company in florida that ahd a brand new one at a screaming deal. Even included a warranty. I just mainly bought it for the sound. it sound sliek a jet taking off lol
Does it sound better and perform better to have an 03 turbo with ped, or do you get the same out of an 07 turbo housing with the 10 blade turbine wheel like the 03?:ford:
the turbine wheels are not interchangeable between those years.
not only did the 03 turbine have 5 less blades, but it is 3mm larger diameter.
if you are going to do it, go for the entire 03 turbo. i've actually got one with the 65mm compressor upgrade and ceramic coated, basically a vgtss brand new for sale if anyone is looking for one.
I'm not sure...The newer housing looks to be more restrictive than the 03 though. Here is a side by side shot of the two. 2005 on the left and 2003 on the right:
darsey your does sounds pretty good! Its basically identical to mine, i have a 4" turboback with 4" downpipe and no cat with muffler. I just bought an Elite Diesel vgt-ss thought and im hoping it will have even more whistle than my 03 turbo! Ill let you guys know!
I'll trade you mine with my truck attached for your 12v
