I actually had a little bit of an issue with the Xtreme Race program's shifts on the street at medium throttle. Felt like the converter locked and the trans shifted immediately after which just felt funny to me. I emailed Innovative about it and they sent me a new file that night that moved the shift point up a little (I'm assuming) and works great. Can't beat that.
Eric's race tune will usually put you in the 420 to 430 hp range. With the converter locked the shifting does feel different for sure, but you get used to it. In fact I prefer the race tune shifting over anything else I have.
I've never run Elite tunes so I can't really make a comparison for you.
well thanks guys i think i should buy there tunes whats the wirst that could happen lose some money by the way i just buy the Xtreme High Power Program for 80$ right
Stock for stock, I'd go '04 model engine with '03 turbo. They made lots of improvements in '04 engines. '03 oil delivery has a smaller HPO rail, unique (somewhat inferior I believe) injectors, different pistons, etc.
Then again, '05+ has stronger, more durable transmission components.
For some reason the 5R110 is next to impossible to make consistent shifting with. Because of the learning nature of it, this trans seems to develope different shifting habits over time especially when your driving habits are not consistent.
My IDP race tune will occasionally start to shift odd, but once I reload the tune it's back to normal. Eric's aggressive shifting race file will short shift sometimes. His later tuning has taken care of this but there are other things I don't like about those tunes so I just deal with the quirky early tune.
yes i've noticed that after several weeks of city driving the shifting gets a tad premature since it's used to being baby'd, and it will act a tad weird when i want to really get on it, but all i have to do is simply reload the tune again to reset the TCM and it will really wake up and be able to driven hard w/out shifting too soon..
with the VGT turbo the XR was actually not too bad on the street w/the converter lockup, but with the nonvvt it really needs the RPMS to spool and having the t/c locked will make it bog too much around town.
it's a love/hate relationship with the 5R110 i feel it is one of the best trannies currently available in a diesel pickup but like you say the learning nature really tends to let it get lazy if you don't romp on it often enough.
still i'd rather have it to the dodge or allison any day, and with a full HD build it has proven to be pretty bulletproof under lots of abuse unlike when it was stock and raised the white flag too soon.
It's worthless to even mention the 400RWHP to 430RWHP differences if that is even true through the different years. Besides using the same dyno, you'll only get hard physical evidence of the difference at a dragstrip if you're a good driver, the track and truck prep/conditions are exactly the same as a previous slip.
You make what you make, and that is all there is to it. Some 05s will put down slightly more than other 05s, it's not an exact science.
